We know Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is a father first and that’s why our hearts are going out to him right now.

The superstar dad has tested positive for COVID-19 and so has his wife, Lauren Hashian, and their two young daughters, 4-year-old Jasmine and 2-year-old Tiana. Johnson’s oldest daughter, 19-year-old Simone, is not named among those who tested positive.

Johnson made the announcement via an Instagram post on Wednesday evening.

“I wanted to give you guys a little helpful update on things that have been going on on my end for the past two-and-a-half to three weeks now. So the update is this: my wife Lauren as well as my two baby girls and myself, we have all tested positive for COVID-19,” he explained.

He continued: “I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well…And I’ve gone through some doozies in the past.”

Johnson says his family caught the virus from family friends and explained that it’s been very hard to cope with the illness.

“Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times,” Johnson said, adding that “my number 1 priority is to always protect my family. And protect my children, my loved ones.”

Johnson said that he and his family contracted the contagious respiratory virus from family friends.

“I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn’t, it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut. But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We’re on the other end of it, we’re on the other side. We’re no longer contagious, and we are—thank God—we are healthy.”

According to Johnson, the children’s symptoms were not serious, but his wife Lauren “had a rough go of it.”

“Wear your mask,” he added. “It baffles me that some people out there, including some politicans will take this idea of wearing masks and make it part of a political agenda. It has nothing to do with politics. Wear a mask. It’s the right thing to do.”

Johnson’s announcement comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is telling public health officials in all 50 states and the U.S. territories to plan to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine as early as November 1.
