Bindi Irwin celebrated her first Mother’s Day with a beautiful portrait of her family—her whole family.

The Australian conservationist shared artwork to Instagram that imagines her entire family together, with her late father Steve Irwin holding her newborn daughter.

“Celebrating my first Mother’s Day. This day embodies the extraordinary gift of family,” the new mom wrote.

“Thank you to ‘The Monkey Brush’ for bringing my family and Chandler’s together in these stunning works of art. I wish we could all be together but sometimes life has other plans. ❤️To my beautiful daughter, always know that you are loved beyond description.”

Bindi welcomed her first child with husband Chandler Powell on the couple’s one-year wedding anniversary in March. They named their daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.

“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior,” Bindi explained when they announced Grace’s birth.

We know that when you’ve lost a loved one, holidays and major milestones can often feel bittersweet. There’s a profound joy in celebrating with your children and loved ones—and a longing for those who’ve passed on.

We imagine Bindi felt the full range of emotions this weekend while she celebrated her first Mother’s Day with baby Grace at her side. This stunning portrait shows us what we already know to be true: the people we love are never far from our thoughts and hearts.
