As Motherly reported earlier this week, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are expecting their third child! We couldn’t be happier this third-time mama!

The reveal came as part of Legend’s new music video for “Wild”, which is basically a celebration of the couple’s love story.

Here’s everything you need to know about Chrissy Teigen’s third pregnancy:

Chrissy + John have used IVF in previous pregnancies

In a 2018 interview with People , Teigen explained that both Miles and Luna were conceived via in vitro fertilization and that she and John still had some embryos left.

“They were sharing the same little petri dish together. It’s crazy,” Teigen explained, noting that Miles and Luna were created at the same time.

At the time Teigen explained that “it’d be awesome,” to fall pregnant without IVF support, she couldn’t even imagine it happening that way because she had needed IVF for her first two pregnancies.

She explained: “I’m totally fine with it not happening because I’ve been in a position where we’ve been able to control it—the timing and scheduling. It would be chaos otherwise—but I love chaos too.”

Chrissy Teigen on her surprise 3rd pregnancy after IVF: ‘When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you’

When John Legend’s “Wild” video dropped on YouTube fans were shocked to see Chrissy Teigen’s third pregnancy reveal at the end, but we were not the only ones shocked by this pregnancy.

No one was as surprised by this pregnancy as she was, says Teigen.

I didn’t think I could get pregnant naturally ,” she explained on Twitter, referencing how both 4-year-old Luna and 2-year-old Miles were conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF) .

IVF was an amazing choice for us to be able to make . So hard, but we got two beautiful monsters out of it. I promise you, I never ever ever ever ever thought I could,” she continued.

Teigen’s pregnancy was such a surprise she ended up having surgery to remove her breast implants while pregnant because she didn’t know she was pregnant yet. A pre-surgery test was negative.

“I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative,” the soon-to-be mother of three explained. “A few weeks after surgery, I took a test. And for many years now, I’ve taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day. Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before.”

Then, the morning of Legend’s album release and he got up at 3 am to appear on Good Morning America . Teigen got up, too.

“I woke up with him and was like man, should take my monthly test to be disappointed…” Teigen explains.

When that random test came back positive, she was scared.

“Was pretty positive you shouldn’t get your boobs out while pregnant?” she wrote. “Pretty sure.”

She went to every doctor’s appointment “terrified” but it soon became clear that the surgery had not impacted her pregnancy.

“What they say so often can be true. When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you,” Teigen wrote, adding, “In summary, my boobs hurt.”

Infertility is hard, and what happened to Teigen doesn’t happen for everyone. That’s important to remember when we celebrate her story. Teigen is sensitive to that. Back in June 2019, when an internet commenter asked her if she was pregnant, Teigen responded: “I know you didn’t mean it to be rude, but think twice about asking this…”

She continued: “There are people who have trouble conceiving, and it hurts every time.”

If you are struggling with infertility right now please know that you are not alone.

This pregnancy could be perfectly timed

According to data from the CDC , more than half of the siblings born in recent years have an age gap of between 18 months (1.5 years) and 59 months (4.91 years).

Depending on when baby no. 3’s due date is, the third Stephens sibling (remember, Legend is not their real last name) will be about 57 months younger than Luna, making them right about average in terms of age gaps for siblings.

According to CDC data, women in Tiegens’s current age group (30-44) are more likely to have longer interpregnancy intervals than younger moms, bur Teigen’s intervals are about average.

Going from 2 to 3 will be challenging

Teigen might find having a third baby takes some adjustment.

Years ago a survey by Today found moms of three are more stressed than moms of two or four , and this year Blake Lively confirmed that, telling Good Morning America that going from two to three kids is “like going from two to 3,000.”

Teigen has a great support system though , so she should be able to get through this just fine.

We can’t wait to see what life is like when she’s a mom of three!
