Cake mix is a staple in many mamas’ pantries because, sometimes, you just need a cake on short notice. Whether your kiddo needs to bring 24 cupcakes to class, or you’ve got multiple birthdays in the family calendar in one month, cake mix has got you covered. That’s why the latest food recall impacts a lot of families. Four kinds of Duncan Hines cake mix are being recalled due to a salmonella outbreak.

If you’ve got Classic White, Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti or Classic Yellow cake mix in your cupboard you may need to return the boxes to the store.

The FDA reports it and the CDC informed Conagra Brands (the parent company of Duncan Hines) that a sample of its Classic White Cake Mix contained Salmonella Agbeni which matched the Salmonella the CDC collected from people who’ve been sick. In five cases of illnesses, the Salmonella Agbeni that’s made people ill has the same DNA fingerprint as the Salmonella identified in Duncan Hines cake mix, the FDA explains.
Conagra, the parent company of Duncan Hines, says it “decided to voluntarily recall the specific Duncan Hines variety identified (Classic White) and three other varieties (Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow) made during the same time period out of an abundance of caution.” The company is also reminding everyone not to eat raw cake mix ever, it needs to be baked.
