In an effort to be there for all stages of a woman’s life from childhood to motherhood, Nike launched Nike M, its first-ever maternity collection designed to carry a mama before and after pregnancy.

The project began three years ago, and the activewear brand spent over a year to create the perfect fit for a mama’s growing body. “Women shouldn’t have to hack their activewear to be comfortable during pregnancy,” says Sandra Carreon-John, Senior Director at Nike. “We saw specific opportunities to bring our expertise in design and materials to make maternity wear more comfortable, versatile and beautiful.”

The collection includes four pieces that were designed in collaboration with 30 pregnant and postpartum athletes—a nursing-friendly sports bra ($55), tank top ($45), cover-up ($85) and high-waist tights ($60).

But they aren’t your typical activewear, mama.

The tights contain Nike’s stretchiest fabric with a wide waist band that adapts to a woman’s growing body. The scoop neck tank is made with four-way stretch for extra comfort and contains Dri-Fit wicking materials for breathability and coverage. The tulip-design cover-up is to be worn in reverse during pregnancy with a split hem making room for the growing belly. And post-pregnancy, the fleece cover up helps keep babies covered (and warm) for discreet nursing. The bra, made of an elastic rib band slider, has an inside panel that can accommodate a nursing pump.

The entire collection is also a nod to sustainability—the leggings utilize recycled bronze material, composed of 83% recycled polyester; the tank top is made of 88% recycled polyester, and the cover up is made of 78% recycled polyester and 10% organic cotton.

“Through a more inclusive approach to design, we’re looking to remove barriers that stand in the way of healthy lifestyles. And as one of the most transformative stages of a woman’s life, we want to help ensure [that] motherhood [is] the start of a new stage–not a stop in a woman’s sport journey. The line was conceived, led and inspired by moms and expecting moms on the Nike design team.”

The Nike (M) collection launches September 17 on nike.com. We’re marking our cals!
