There's no time like pregnancy to revisit what you put on your skin. Not only is it hyperreactive, thanks to those lovely (raging) hormones, but it's also housing a tiny VIP who's taking in every toxin and chemical that you are. Since we know it's hard to keep track of what's safe and what's not, it's nice to know there are some people who are, like Beautycounter. Founded by stylish mama Gregg Renfrew, the company boasts a “Never List" of more than 1,500 dirty ingredients. And that should mean a lot to a pregnant gal, since studies have shown the presence of more than 200 synthetic chemicals in the cord blood of newborn babies. The ingredients that are left still manage to create some pretty impressive products--we spent the entire sunburn-free summer in Beautycounter's Protect Face Sunscreen, and we can't wait to get our hands on the brand new Skin Cosmetics Collection. While Renfrew practically emanates Southern California--you know, glowing. fresh-faced and chemical free--she was actually born, raised, got married and had her kids in New York City. She travels here at least eight times a year, and it still holds a special place in her heart. Below, she clues us in on her best travel tips, and tells us where you can find her 'round town while she's here. NYC Favorites Hotel: The Mercer Hotel. It's cozy, convenient, close to shopping and great for cocktails. Coffee Shop: I don't drink coffee! Baby/Kids Shop: When my kids were little I got them everything from Yoya in the West Village. Beauty Spot: The bottom floor of Bergdorf Goodman is just so beautiful to go look at. I don't buy anything down there, but I love to look. My favorite spa is Exhale because of how much I love Core Fusion. Fred DeVito is best instructor I've ever had. Clothes Shopping (for you!): J.Crew Collection on the Upper East Side, Lela Rose (wherever I can find it) Restaurant: Bar Pitti or Raoul's have always been my favorites. Secret Spot: There is a garden behind St. Luke's school in the West Village that is a little piece of serenity in the city. A Dose of Fresh Air: The Westside Highway for a breeze off the river How important is it to take care of your skin when you're on the go so much? So important, especially when you spend so much time on a plane. The air is incredibly dry so you need to make sure it's always hydrated. What are some of your Beautycounter musts for travel? Our Cleansing Balm is my go-to item for travel. It's a solid oil (so you can bring through security in your carry-on), it's a cleanser, a make up remover, and an overnight mask if you need added hydration. The Beautycounter Eye Cream and our new Touch Up Concealer Pen are two things I cannot live without, especially when I take so many redeyes! And our Lip Sheer in Twig.
