How would you describe your pregnant style?
My coworkers have told me that I "work my bump." I definitely embrace my growing belly and wear more form-fitting maternity dresses for work. I'm also a mom to a 20-month old girl who keeps me very busy. I have to be comfortable when I am home so I try to dress in items that support my growing areas and allow me to keep up with her.
Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during pregnancy?
Yes. I popped so quickly with this pregnancy. I was already showing at 8 weeks and I'm always surprised at how complete strangers can say the wildest (and sometimes cruel) things to a pregnant woman. By around 20 weeks, I got a lot of "any day now, huh?!" and "must be twins!?" I definitely became uncomfortable with my second trimester size and struggled for a bit to feel confident in my new roundness. Fortunately, I tapered off in the third trimester and haven't grown so much but I still get those crazy people who have to throw in a comment on the subway.
So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
My first pregnancy was different in so many ways. I had struggled to get pregnant for several years so, once I was, I approached everything with so much fear and caution. I was diagnosed with placenta previa in the second trimester--which means you basically can't do any physical activity other than walking. This pregnancy has been entirely different. It was such a pleasant surprise to find out we were pregnant just a month after I stopped breastfeeding my 12 month old. The theme of this pregnancy has definitely been "active". My little girl is constantly on-the-go so I don't have room (or time) for fear and anxiety. Because of this, I've been able to keep up my workout routines which I hope helps me recover more quickly than I did from my first labor.
What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump?
I love ASOS for their affordability and wide array of body-con dresses. I also caved and bought four nice pairs of maternity jeans (two blue, one white and one black) from A Pea in the Pod Maternity. These staples were clutch in my maternity style. I actually was able to find a lot of great non-maternity tops that grew with me for most of my pregnancy. For working out, I am obsessed with all tops from FitBump and I never head to the gym without my Medela support belt.
What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
I'm excited to watch her grow into a unique person and see how she is different than my first. I also pray that they have an awesome sister bond. I am excited to bring her into existing family traditions like Saturday mornings at the Museum of Natural History but also starting new ones as a family of four.
