How would you describe your pregnant style?
Sophisticated with a sporty edge.
Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during this pregnancy?
I’m tall, so it became obvious quickly when the hems of my dresses and tops started to creep north as the bump grew. But other than weeding out the short stuff, I’ve actually been able to wear a lot of my regular clothes by extending the buttonhole on a few pairs of jeans, embracing my love for—and the current trend of—drawstring pants and making tops work for as long as possible. I also took a break from high shoes. I’ve never met a metallic sneaker I didn’t love, and a wedge now and then gives a little lift.
So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
How much I’ve enjoyed being pregnant! I told a friend recently that I think I’ll actually miss it when the nine months are up in early November and she thought I’d gone completely crazy. But it’s been fun and we’ve been lucky: Things have gone smoothly, I’ve felt like myself for the most part and it’s been a bit like one big fairly awe-inspiring science project.
What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump?
For everyday dressing I’ve had good luck with J. Crew: I bought two pairs of maternity jeans and some other pieces in a size bigger than I’d normally wear. Two body-con dresses from Banana Republic turned out to be total surprise staples and I have a pencil skirt and a jumpsuit (couldn’t resist) from Asos. I’ve also been able to work out pretty regularly so, of course, I love my FitBump workout clothes!
What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
Going for runs in Central Park. If all goes well, he’ll be spending plenty of quality time in the running stroller as our new training partner.
