How would you describe your pregnant style?
I don’t think my pregnancy style is a departure from my pre-pregnancy style which I describe as urban boho. Or a combination of East coast meets West. While I’ve had to be strategic about silhouettes and fit, I’ve maintained consistency with my usual look. That said, I’m really happy that it’s maxi dress season because since the weather turned warm (and I’m almost 8 months along), I’ve given up on jeans and any item with a waistband.
Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during pregnancy?
Building a collection of clothing that would sustain throughout the pregnancy. This was a combination of picking out my existing pieces that worked and feeding in some newness to round it all out. I tried to purchase items that would fit postpartum to get the best return on my investment and I was mostly able to do that. Carefully and strategically. Once that was established, I found my pregnancy style groove.
So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
How comfortable and empowered I feel in my body. I didn’t know how I would handle the physical changes, but ironically I am more confident in my skin now, than I was in my pre-pregnancy body. The other thing that surprises me is how surprised I still am after almost reaching 8 months. Everyday, I’m still in awe that my body is creating life. It is fascinating! I am literally blown away.
What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump?
Jumpsuits! I’ve lived in my Hatch Collection Cashmere Onesie since the day it arrived my first trimester, so it certainly received the most mileage out of anything in my wardrobe. It was the best investment I made. Warm and cozy in the winter layered up, and wears just as well now with a tank and sandals. It is beyond comfortable. The other piece I wear non-stop is from H&M. I bought a pair of non-maternity white overalls 3 sizes too big and since there are 3 buttons along each side, I have been able to undo one at a time to create more space as my belly grows. I bought it at about 4 months, and I’m approaching 8. Still works!
What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
The culture, the diversity, the art, design and dynamic nature of the people! There is so much difference here and I love how people don’t shy away from self-expression and individualism. I’ve lived here for almost 15 years and while these days I tend to walk around on autopilot, I can’t wait to experience things for the first time again through the lens of my babe.
