DwellStudio founder Christiane Lemieux tells us about design inspiration and gives us her top 5 registry picks.
Walking into a big name baby store to register for the first time can leave you crying for your own mom. The unpleasant florescent lights and the overwhelming options just don’t feel natural to most of us. But there are options. Hidden treasures that you may not even be aware of offer registries. Like one of our favorite home and design shops in NYC, DwellStudio, which has an online baby registry.
With her very modern take on baby gear, DwellStudio Founder Christiane Lemieux and her team design nursery furniture much in the same way they design their main line. “Our customers really want their houses to flow seamlessly. They want the same level of design in the livingroom that they have in the baby's room,” says Lemieux. Sourcing her inspiration from travel, flea markets, museums and more, Lemieux says she puts it all into her mental blender and then goes from there. “We usually soften the trends for baby,” she says. As a mother in NYC, Christiane takes space into account when designing nursery items as well. “I think space is a big issue everywhere. You really have no idea how much stuff the little ones need. We try and fit in as much storage as possible!” she says.
Two other very important pieces to the puzzle that influence her design? Her son and daughter, naturally. “They really chime in. In fact, my son requested the dino bedding. It was really designed for him. They prove to me, daily, that kids have much more sophisticated taste than we give them credit for.” Since the brand carries everything from cribs to bedding to changing tables and stationary -- the essentials -- Lemieux says it’s important to offer a registry at DwellStudio so that parents can create the registry of their dreams. “I know I was hesitant to buy everything I wanted when I had my two babies, so registering really helped.”
