Admit it: holidays are so much more fun with little ones in the house. And isn’t there just something so nostalgic about the smell of hardboiled eggs and vinegar? But mama, you don’t have to use those mystery-ingredient dye tablets this year (Seriously, try Googling the ingredients. What is in those things?!). You can go totally organic with these natural food dyes, made from things you already have in your kitchen… and the best part: your kids can help!

Here are the few steps you'll need to follow to make these naturally dyed easter eggs.

You’ll need:

1. Hard boiled eggs

2. White vinegar

3. Cooked beets

4. Frozen blueberries

5. Leafy greens. We used parsley stems, which gave a speckled effect. Spinach or kale would act more like a dye.

6. Turmeric

7. Coffee grounds

If you’re worried about staining your hands, use some rubber gloves. These stains work on eggs – they’ll stain tiny hands, too. Combine the following, and simmer for 15 minutes. After simmering, add 2 tablepoons of white vinegar to the dye.

For pink eggs: 1 cup rough chopped beets + 1 cup water

For blue eggs: 1 cup blueberries + 1 cup water

For green eggs: 1 cup rough chopped leafy greens + 1 cup water

For yellow eggs: 2 tbsp. turmeric + 1 cup water

For brown eggs: 3 tbsp. coffee grounds + 1 cup water
