Getting out of town can be fun, but sometimes the best adventures are right around the corner.
One of the best things about living in New York City is that a great day trip can start the minute you step off your stoop. Spots that tourists travel hundreds of miles to see are practically in our backyard. And although we loved exploring our beloved NYC with our closest pals pre-baby, we really love getting out and about with our little ones in tow.
We’ve partnered up with our friends with the Earth’s Best® brand to show you what a perfect little day trip in our beloved Brooklyn looks like when we’re Out and About with our kiddos. Over the next few days, find out where we go for a stress-free day of play with our little ones, how we get there and what we bring along.
Our first installment starts with a peek into my cabinets (OK, I admit we don’t always have our shelves stocked with this much Earth’s Best® food, but it sure does look pretty, doesn’t it?) and the waterway route we take from Williamsburg to DUMBO’s Brooklyn Bridge Park.
To get ready for a long morning filled with playgrounds and toddlers we pack a day bag (aka the “diaper bag”) filled with necessities like diapers, wipes, bandages, trucks (if your toddler is obsessed with them as mine is), and most importantly snacks. While I always include fresh fruit (and a sandwich for longer trips), Earth’s Best Organic® pouches are a great addition because they fit almost anywhere and you don’t have to worry about prep time -- a huge bonus in our home since we’re always running late (sorry!).
I have just one toddler boy, Oliver, but we have tons of friends with babies (including Jess’s beautiful girls Libby and Elsie) that like to drop by. And because we want to encourage them to stay a little longer, we like to have a few jars of baby food on reserve just in case. Thankfully jars have a longer shelf life than a pouched product.
Unless you’re ready to hand over snacks while you’re packing your bag, make sure to throw Earth’s Best® pouches in when your toddler is looking the other way. Toddlers get very demanding.
Our favorite mode of transportation is by far the East River Ferry. Traveling from our neighborhood of Williamsburg to DUMBO by subway could take a whole day in itself, but it only takes about 10 minutes from pier to pier when we take the Ferry. The sights are just as breathtaking every time we hop on, and there’s nothing more fun than watching our kids discover NYC in a whole new way.
Mama tip: Once you try the Ferry, you’ll be hooked. It can take you to and from various points in the city, Brooklyn and even Governor’s Island. Plus you can pay on the boat, meaning no ticket lines and no whiny toddlers.
Check in with us tomorrow when our NYC excursion continues back on land, where we find more adorable pals...and a great playground.
We want to hear where you like to take your favorite day trip in your hometown. Leave a comment below, or better yet, instagram a photo of you and your little one and hashtag #outandaboutwithEB and @wellroundedny @earthsbest. We'll regram our favorites!
