Pregnancy Yoga: Goddess Pose

Take a 5-minute pause with this strengthening yoga pose for pregnancy.

Pregnancy Yoga: Goddess Pose

There’s no time like the holidays to indulge in a little pregnancy yoga break, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. NYC yogi Anna Gannon walks us through a Goddess Pose that perfect for pregnancy and beyond.

“Goddess pose is great for opening your hips while at the same time strengthening your legs. Doing this pose daily can make labor easier because it keeps you open and holding it for minutes at a time prepares your body for being in this position during labor. I hold this pose for 5 minutes everyday while I'm doing dishes, cooking or drying my hair. It's easy to multitask with this one.”

How to get into the Goddess Pose:

1- Stand with your legs wide, turn your heels in and toes out and make sure your knees are tracking in the same direction as your toes.

2- Sink your hips as low as your knees.

3- Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Close your eyes, soften your upper body and just breathe into your hands. This is a great time to just connect with your baby. Hold for anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes.
