WTF… Hospital Bag

Cricket’s Circle founder Rachel Blumenthal shows us her hospital bag necessities for Baby #2.

WTF… Hospital Bag

As the founder of our favorite baby registry hack, Cricket’s Circle, Rachel Blumenthal thinks about life with new baby on a daily basis. So it’s no surprise that she was packed and ready to go for Baby Girl Blumenthal almost a month in advance. “The last thing I want to do is scramble when I go into labor. If only I could get my husband to throw a few of his things in the bag before d-day!” With her first babe, Griffin, who arrived four years ago, Rachel says she “packed everything down to two rolls of toilet paper (seriously). I'm still trying to figure out what the he** my friend was thinking who told me to pack it. This time around, it's all about practical, essentials--less is more.” In honor of little Gemma’s arrival last week, we’re opening up Rachel’s birth day carryall and showing you how one baby expert packed for the big day. 1. Somme Institute travel kit. The simplest form of a complete skincare routine in the perfect travel sizes. 2. Maybelline Full n' Soft mascara and 6. Tata Harper Be Adored Lip Treatment. My two makeup essentials. 3. Cosabella lace nursing bra. Sexy lace + function = brilliant 4. Helmut Lang slouchy drawstring jersey pant. Jersey + Stretchy + Drawstring + Black = forgiving and comfort heaven. 5. Giant Missoni Bath Sheet Towel. Your first shower is somewhere between incredible and traumatic so I like to have a giant, comfy towel. 7. Aden and Anais Neon Pink Star Swaddle. Nursing cover-up, lightweight blanket and swaddle in one. 8. Parker Thatch X-Large canvas tote bag. I'm packing everything in this incredible, enormous canvas tote bag. 9. You will always be their safe space, mama

You are their haven. Their harbor. Their sanctuary, their peace. You are comfort. Deep breaths. Hugs and back rubs. You're a resting place, a nightmare chaser, a healer. You are the calm within their storm. You are their mother.

To your child, you are safety. You are security. You are where (out of anyone or any place), they can come undone. Where they can let it all out, let it all go. Where they meltdown, break down, scream, cry, push.

Where they can say—"I AM NOT OKAY!"

Where they can totally lose it. Without judgment or fear or shame.

Because they know you'll listen. They know you'll hear them. That you will help piece the mess back together.

    A Montessori-inspired gift guide—for newborns to 6-year-olds

There are plenty of Montessori-friendly toys that are beautiful and engaging, but also appeal to children's developmental needs.

With so many toys out there, it can be hard to find intentional gifts for our children that are both fun and meaningful. Using a Montessori approach to your shopping doesn't mean your choices need to be academic. There are plenty of Montessori-friendly toys that are beautiful and engaging, but also appeal to children's developmental needs.

Montessori toys are usually made from natural materials, non-electronic and foster independent play, creativity and concentration. Montessori materials are simple and somewhat minimalist in general, and this is especially true for infants and young toddlers. The world is so stimulating for these little ones already, that simple toys made of natural materials spark the child's curiosity without being overwhelming.

These pics of a big brother and baby sister are too sweet.

    Ryder Robinson

To be born close in age to your siblings is a special experience. You have a built-in playmate and BFF for life, but being born after an age gap certainly has its benefits, too.

Parents who are expecting again when their older children are already into double digits may wonder what the sibling bond will look like when the kids have more than a decade between them. Well, look no further, because Kate Hudson's oldest son, 14-year-old Ryder Robinson took to Instagram to show the world that while he and baby Rani Rose may not be playmates they have an equally powerful sibling bond.
