How would you describe your pregnant style?
I think my style changes every day depending on what feels comfortable and what I need to do that day. But overall, I love classic vintage maternity style, especially from the 80’s–maybe it’s because I’m the
oldest of four, and my mom had great style when she was pregnant with all my sisters. I love the old images of pregnant Princess Diana, and I’ve been inspired by the pregnancy look of Scandal’s First Lady Mellie. I actually have an amazing vintage cream satin brocade maternity skirt suit I’m looking forward to wearing for Easter – it feels very regal!
Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during this pregnancy?
I didn’t realize how much my whole body would change. I was overly excited about buying maternity clothes and bought a bunch of stuff too early instead of waiting to see how my body would shift and what I would really need. Lots of things I bought earlier are already too small!
So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy?
I’ve been surprised by how much of a conversation starter pregnancy can be. It feels like such an intimate and personal experience, yet it’s also a really communal thing. People always want to share a story
or give you advice or just acknowledge you in a different way once they notice the bump. That’s been a surprising experience for me.
What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump?
My J Brand “Mama J” jeans have been great along with basics from the GAP and ASOS. But otherwise I’ve really enjoyed seeking out unique vintage treasures. I especially had fun picking out oversized sundresses and caftans for the summer with my husband at a Salvation Army in Texas a few months ago – just waiting for warmer weather to wear them!
What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby?
I’m definitely looking forward to making new friends at the parks and playgrounds, but I’m also just excited to rediscover the sights and sounds of the city as my little boy experiences it all for the first time.
