One of the best things about living in the United States is seeing the range of cultures, products and lifestyles that find a voice here. This week, we bring you the best of the US, with an international pop-up shop in NYC, a charter school dedicated to expectant teens in Rhode Island, and a major milestone in Texas. It’s a home-grown edition of Weekly Links!

First baby born after a uterus transplant

1. Fertility medicine just made a huge developmental leap this week. The first baby in the United States from a uterus transplant was just born (although his birthday is being kept confidential for now). Following another successful transplant birth in Sweden in 2014 and a year of trials in the US, this treatment could turn out to be a viable option for women who struggle with uterine factor infertility (as many as five percent of women in the US).

Childcare for student mothers

5. Although teen pregnancy rates have been plummeting, young women that find themselves expecting while still in school can often expect to be pushed out of class. But not at the Nowell Leadership Academy charter school. The Rhode Island school has gone above and beyond to give students and their families a fighting chance. There, students have access to on-site childcare, home visits, flexible class schedules, and parenting classes that support them through a challenging educational curriculum.
