When my first baby was four days old, I remember googling "products new babies need" in the middle of the night while he whined next to me in his bassinet, hoping to find a magical solution to all of our problems. Instead, I should've been listening to my mama friends and Facebook support groups because, honestly, only moms know what really works for babies. After all, we've been there, we've tried it, and we've done the things we swore we weren't going to. (In my case, that meant using pacifiers and bottle-feeding. My babies taught me I needed to listen to their needs and not my wants).
So we asked you, our readers, what were the products that you couldn't get through motherhood without and, unsurprisingly, you had a lot to share. We've compiled the items that you suggested over and over again so new mamas can learn from our collective knowledge, and who knows, maybe get an extra hour of sleep here and there.
These are the products you all recommended for new mamas:
Promising review: "We have a Fisher Price soothing teddy bear that vibrates and plays white noise and lullabies. It was the ONLY way to get my fussy newborn back to sleep especially when transferring him to his bassinet. They don't make this one anymore but there's similar ones. We called it his "cuddle bear" and he still gets excited when I bring it out (15 months later!!). " - Sarah K
Promising review: "Haakaa silicone pump, I also had a medela pump but I found it was much easier to grab, use and clean." - Elizabeth L
Promising review: "My ergo carrier!! Seriously I love it. I had my boys 16 months apart. And I don't know what I would have done. I have worn 3 babies in that sucker. Still going strong. I can nurse in it while taking a walk. I feel like I could go jogging with the baby in it. It's like magic sleep dust. I love it I love it I love it!!" - Megan C
Promising review: "BOOKS!!!!📚 I read to my kids in the womb and everyday of their lives til they could read themselves. They were both early readers and now honor roll students that read every night." - Sharon T
Promising review: "Fisher-Price swing, I've used it with my 3 kiddos and the naps are guaranteed. A full year of use each. I've bought it several times though. Best money I've ever spent." - Lluviana P
Promising review: "Pack n play. Whether it's naps, sleeping for the first few months in our room, baby jail, traveling; it's amazing and really versatile." - Jennifer F
Promising review: "Owlet monitor. We've used it for all 3 kids and it's given me such peace of mind." - Rebecca P
Promising review: "Myhummy bear, used it from day one and at 20 months it still goes on every night at bedtime. She knows the noise means it's time to sleep. Slept 7-7 straight through from 10 weeks old. Wouldn't be without it." - Laura P
Promising review: "Ollie swaddle! My daughter would not stay saddled and would wake up every time she got out. Once we got the Ollie she started sleeping through the night 🙌" - Brooke S
Promising review: "Dr Browns formula mixer. It makes up to 40oz of formula at once for the day and can then be stored in the fridge or pre-pour bottles. Super time saver when a quick bottle is needed rather than scooping and shaking every time! 🍼" - Ashley S
Promising review: "Our stow n go bassinet. Baby girl was born just before our summer and the rooms in our house get soo hot during the day. I could just pop this up in the lounge where the doors and windows were open for a breeze and it's meant she can sleep well with a noisy environment. Was also super handy when visiting people." - Melissa P
