Vanessa Bryant is sharing her grief with the world, after experiencing something most of the world can’t imagine. Bryant lost both her husband Kobe and 13-year-old daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash on January 26th, and she says she’s still struggling to accept that they were both taken too soon.

Bryant bared her feeling in an extremely emotional Instagram post, saying, “My brain refuses to accept that both Kobe and Gigi are gone. I can’t process both at the same time. It’s like I’m trying to process Kobe being gone but my body refuses to accept my Gigi will never come back to me. it feels wrong.”

It’s gut-wrenching just to read, and simply unimaginable to live through. It’s even more heartbreaking to realize that in the depths of her pain, Bryant has three other daughters to care for—17-year-old Natalia, 3-year-old Bianka, and 7-month-old Capri.

The agonizing post continued, “Why should I be able to wake up another day when my baby girl isn’t being able to have that opportunity?! I’m so mad. She had so much life to live.”

Bryant said she’d been reluctant to write about her feelings, but decided to do so in case it could help someone else dealing with loss. She ended with a request for prayers, saying, “God I wish they were here and this nightmare would be over. Praying for all of the victims of this horrible tragedy. Please continue to pray for all.”

So many people are thinking of Vanessa and her daughters right now. There has been so much grief for the Bryant family online, and research suggests that mourning online can have a positive impact on those impacted by a tragedy, but research also suggests that media coverage attention can trigger people who have experienced similar tragedies. The death of the basketball legend and his teen daughter shocked the world and on Friday they were laid to rest during a private funeral. The two will be honored publicly later this month at a special memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where Kobe spent years playing with the Lakers. Vanessa Bryant shared the significance of the event’s date, 2-24-20, explaining that her daughter wore number 2, her husband wore number 24, and the couple had been together for 20 years.

Our hearts are with Vanessa and anyone who sees their own grief reflected in hers.
