These days, there’s no shortage of streaming services to subscribe to. So many that if you’ve done the math, you may have realized it’s time to reel your monthly spending in a bit. But don’t worry! Turns out there’s a completely free option with a great mix of content that will help balance your budget and entertain the whole family–Sling Freestream.

Launched just a few weeks ago, it’s already woo-ing us with some binge-worthy shows and quality kid content both live and on-demand. Want to learn more about why you should take 30 seconds and sign up for yourself? Read on!

What is Sling Freestream?

A completely free version of Sling TV, Freestream features an ad-supported mix of live and on-demand content across 210 channels including movies, TV shows, kids programming, news and sports. Family movie night with The Goonies? Got it. Want to hide from your family and cry to arguably cheesy (but oh-so-watchable) Hallmark movies? Sure thing. Need to cook dinner and keep your kids out from under your feet for a hot minute? Freestream also features educational and kid-friendly shows they know and love like Thomas & Friends as well as new discoveries to add to their list of favorites. Best of all, since it’s FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV), it’s not a free trial you have to worry about canceling.

How does Freestream work?

Freestream offers both live content and on-demand, so there’s always something to watch. The app is super easy to use with the current live programs shown throughout the home page as well as a guide to see what’s coming up.

There’s live news throughout the day from major networks like CBS and ABC to keep you in the know. There’s also first episodes of hit shows like Yellowjackets and Outlander in case you want to see what all the hype is about. Additionally, every genre from drama to reality TV has something to offer every hour of the day.

Does Freestream have on-demand content?

It sure does! Currently they’ve got over 40,000 on-demand TV shows and movies including shows like Hell’s Kitchen, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross (is there a more soothing show ever?), and a ton of retro favorites you can’t often find elsewhere. Exhausted all the latest true crime documentaries on your other streaming services? You’ll be thrilled to hear that with Freestream, you can scare the bejesus out of yourself with 238 vintage episodes of Unsolved Mysteries. And if Robert Stack’s voice still sends a chill down your spine, there’s plenty of other top-tier options to choose from.

On a completely different note, there’s also an entire channel called DOGTV which offers “scientifically designed programs to keep pups company while their owners are away.” After all, they’re part of the family too, right?

How do you sign up for Sling Freestream?

Simply sign up with your email address and start streaming on any supported device. That’s it–no credit card required. It’s available basically anywhere you already watch from, including smart TVs and players like Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Chromecast, Roku, Samsung, Vizio, etc.; phones and computers running Chrome, Amazon Fire Tablets, Android Mobile, iOS 11, Safari, Windows 10; as well as the Xbox Series X|S gaming console.

If you do want to upgrade, you can subscribe to premium channels a la carte and manage them all from your Freestream account–but again, Sling Freestream is totally free!

What kids shows are on Freestream?

We love Bluey as much as the next mom, but sometimes you’ve got to branch out a bit, right? If you’ve got little ones, head straight to Nick Jr. Pluto to find popular favorites like The Wiggles, Peppa Pig, Blues Clues, Paw Patrol, Bubble Guppies and more. Older kids will love options like Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go. There’s also a ton of hidden gems you may not have heard of like Summer Camp Island– a sweet cartoon about two best friends who go to a magic sleep-away camp where nothing is what it seems. (Each episode is just ten minutes long and totally adorable.)

Check it out for yourself to discover all the great content–after all, what do you have to lose? (Well, besides the hours you’ll be binging, of course.)
