Before you became a mom, there’s a good chance the phrase “beach day” or “pool day” stirred up images of relaxing, drink in hand, working on your tan and occasionally taking a dip to cool off. But times have changed, haven’t they my friend? Now, a trip to the water means hauling 80 pounds of gear, slathering everyone with a vat of sunscreen (yourself included) and sitting for approximately three minutes. Another shift? Your suit now has to perform like a super hero outfit. Which may mean you’re about that one piece bathing suit life right now.

If you’re like us and don’t have a glorious private pool in your backyard, you’re going to have to cool off in public, which means wearing a bathing suit to your town beach, lake or pool. While you’re bent over helping a toddler learn to walk or dripping wet after going down a water slide 15 times.

Fear not, gals, Motherly to the rescue. Because summer is about having FUN—jumping in that pool with your babies, diving headfirst into that wave with your middle schoolers—we’ve scoured the market for the best, most flattering one piece bathing suits moms can actually “mom” in. We want you spending way less time fretting about your appearance and way more time having a blast with your families.

One piece bathing suits we're loving right now

Vitamin A Luxe Link Belted One Piece

$120 $200

Ever since I went down the internet rabbit hole of swimsuits featured in White Lotus, I can’t get the idea of a gorg belted one-piece out of my head. Of course Laurie’s golden Zimmerman stunner is out of stock everywhere, but the Vitamin A Luxe Link Belted One Piece is a worthy replacement. The gold chain link belt and sassy side cuts are luxury resort worthy but equally at home on a budget vacay.

Summersalt Sidestroke

$95

Chances are, you’ve spotted this beauty in the wild by now. (And if not, you’ve definitely seen it on the interwebs.) That’s because Summersalt’s best-selling swimsuit is basically the unicorn of swimsuits. With an eye-catching one-shoulder silhouette it serves a major LEWK while still providing full support up top and bottom coverage. The compressive fabric and diagonal color-block design do all the right things to create a piece we kind of never want to take off.

Reviewers say: “If you want to feel like a million dollars in a suit this one is for you! Support in all of the right places. Beautiful material and cut. I want all of the colours!”

Summersalt All Day One Piece

$110

Aptly named the All Day One Piece, this adventure-ready style from Carve Designs can easily jump from the pool to errands the second you pull on a pair of shorts. The extra coverage at the shoulders offers added sun protection making it a go-to for sporty endeavors like paddle boarding or kayaking and although the zip-front design can make it a bit tricky to wiggle into, we love that it can easily double as a nursing swimsuit. It’s available in a range of prints and solids (black included) but we’re particularly fond of the Nirvana option with its hourglass-bestowing diamonds at the sides.

SU78 Lourdes One Piece

$37 $148

Launched earlier this spring by Laguna Beach-based swim industry veteran Summer Rapp, we’re just a tad obsessed with everything from the sustainable (and stunning) Summer of 78. Every style is impeccably designed with high-end details that make them look as though they cost at least twice as much. For example, the Baywatch-but-better Lourdes One Piece with its adorable cap sleeve. It’s got a sophisticated high cut and a just-cheeky-enough backside that gives a two-piece appearance with a clasp at the bra line. And our favorite part? Hidden underwires for allll the lift and support. The best part? It’s currently on super sale.

J. Crew Sleek ruched one-shoulder one-piece swimsuit

$69.50 $118

J. Crew’s best-selling one-piece has been a go-to for years given its stellar silhouette and universally stunning fit. The asymmetrical one shoulder cut and ruched bodice is seriously eye-catching but also quite functional–no boobs falling out or wedgie-picking required. It also gets high marks for its inclusive sizing ranging from 0-24.

cupshe swim

$37.99

Sun’s out, girls out, amirite? One of the most décolletage-flattering suits out there has to be this popular Amazon favorite. The secret is in the lace up back which allows you to customize the fit and removable lined cups to keep everything smooth and lifted. The deep-v ruffled neckline is the icing on the cake. According to reviewers it’s a bit on the cheeky side but not uncomfortably so. It comes in a range of pretty floral prints and solid colors.

Reviewers say: Absolutely LOVE this swimsuit! I have had such a hard time finding a swim suit that hides the places that I’m self conscious about & this is the winner! I’m 5’7” & 160lbs & the Large fit me perfect!! I’m ordering another one in a solid print after this review! – Stefanie

Old Navy Ribbed One-Piece Swimsuit

$34.99 $49.99

Textured suits are definitely still on trend this season and having tried a few ourselves, we get it. Not only does it keep you from being precious about where you park your bottom, it’s also stretchy and supremely comfortable. This one from Old Navy has the added bonus of a stunning silhouette and totally reasonable price tag.

Reviewers say: “Love this suit. So flattering, comfortable and confidence-boosting (while still feeling family-friendly chasing around the kiddos). Love the ribbed texture and cross-back detail. Highly recommend.”

Andie Swim The Malibu

$112

The best-selling sporty-cum-sexy Malibu from Andie is bringing me all the Body Glove 80’s vibes with a sophisticated twist by way of a row of snaps. And with maximum bust support, removable soft cups and 50+ UPF sun protection, it’s ready for whatever adventure you are. This style also offers an impressive array of fit options including a long torso version and three degrees of bum coverage in sizes XS-XXXL.

Reviewers say: “I have never felt more confident in a swimsuit. It’s perfect for a family day or a bachelorette trip because of the buttons. Great support whether the buttons are all the way up or unbuttoned! So flattering everywhere else too. I’m so excited for summer!”

Boden Santorini Halterneck Swimsuit

$109

This swimsuit is proof that flattering swimwear doesn’t only come in black. We’re loving—nay, we’re obsessed with—the “fire red colourblock” pattern that mixes an electric blue with pops of bubblegum pink and scarlet. The result is a crisp, Bardot-esque suit that has a retro vibe thanks to chaste cuts and a thick halter strap (which, FYI, doesn’t dig into your skin!). The color blocked panels are incredibly flattering—and, bonus, they provide an optical illusion that make all torsos seem flatter than they actually are. Fun hack: Pull the halter down, tie it behind your back and you’ve got yourself a strapless suit, too!

Reviewers say: “I have a long torso and usually struggle to find the perfect fit in a one piece suit. The Santorini in long sizing is perfect for me, plus the cut and lines are so flattering. My first suit lasted me 3 years of frequent use (in the pool almost weekly year round, and plenty of beaching over the summer), and I didn’t hesitate to get the same one again. Love the new colors and the same flattering fit, and already getting compliments!”

Knix Sculpt Ruched One Piece Swimsuit

$120

Leave it to Knix, our go-to brand for leakproof undies and super comfy forget-you’re-wearing-it bras to offer one of our favorite suits of the summer. The Sculpt Ruched One Piece literally fits like a glove thanks to their innovative “Sculpt” fabric and a crazy array of sizes (16 to be exact) which allow you to find exactly the right one for your shape. (Also, if you’re in the #bigboobs club, this is your suit. The largest size can wrangle 40 E/F/G cups.) Ruching at the middle ensures it’s flattering AF and the straps can be worn a variety of ways or even removed altogether. It offers medium butt coverage and a thigh that’s just high enough. And as a bonus, this suit will look GREAT worn as a body suit with high-waisted jeans or a full skirt this summer.

Solid & Striped The Devon One Piece

$56 $188

Be still my ’90s-loving heart–this allover sunflower print has me in a total chokehold. Add in the ruched front, removable halter strap and high cut hip line and it’s total perfection. And did I mention it’s 70% off?!

Minnow Women's Banana Terry One Piece

$212

What do we love most about the gorgeous Cove Blue Terry One Piece from Minnow? Could it be the vintage vibe style? The wide, adjustable straps that lift but don’t dig? The oh-so-flattering compression fabric that cinches without squeezing? The super luxe fabric that feels like a million bucks? Well, sure it’s all those things. But it’s also the fact the brand has an irresistible collection of matching (but not matchy-matchy) styles for our kiddos.

tempt me swim

$31.99

With over 25K 5-star ratings, this style from Tempt Me is an Amazon bathing suit sensation–and for good reason. The combination of a high neck line and mesh insert (which extends to the back as well) is the perfect intersection of supported and sexy while the compressive fabric and ruched front give a boost of confidence if you’re  tummy-conscious. And the price is right too!

Reviewers say: Listen I’ve had 4 kids the last 2 being c-sections! I’ve battled with my body image issues for decades and although I’ve come a long way, the one thing I’m still self-conscious about is my tummy! I can’t tell you how many years I sat at the pool or on the beach in regular clothing because I was too self-conscious. Well, not anymore! This is literally the most flattering swimsuit I have ever owned. It accentuates in all the right places! For size reference, I am 5’ 2”, 145 pounds and a 38C. The medium fits perfectly and I own this swimsuit in FOUR different colors! – WindyCityDad

Onewith Bellows One Piece

$92

For ages I’ve lamented the fact that while both fulfill the purpose of covering our most intimate areas, bathing suits and underwear are not created equal. Seamless, lay flat undies do a spectacular job of flattering while so many bathing suits poke, prod and squeeze things. Why can’t these industries get together and swap notes? Turns out, someone else had this same thought and actually did something about it. Enter onewith. The self-described “swimsuits that fit like underwear” are exactly what I’d been hunting for since forever. Free of elastic, totally seamless and with a fit that hugs every curve (instead of jabbing them), I admit I’m stone cold obsessed with the best-selling one piece which IMO also makes a perfect bodysuit as well. (I wore it to a backyard party with a tiered skirt and had to send a link to at least four women in attendance.)Be warned that it does showcase a fair amount of cheek but doesn’t feel wedgie-inducing. It’s available in an inclusive range of sizing from XXS-4XL.

Etam One-Piece Swimsuit With Square Neckline

$64.95

A few key details elevate this tank suit from simple to sophisticated. For starters, we love the square neckline which is just low enough to feel sexy but not so low you risk spillage.  The wider straps are both stylish and functional, with sliders to ensure the most comfortable fit, and darts at the side give a bit of definition. We also love that the sculpting fabric isn’t just great for smoothing and cinching–it’s also gentler on the planet as well.

Cupshe Solid Mesh Wrap Front One Piece - Motherly

$28

With edgy mesh cut outs this otherwise simple style goes from “ho hum” to “who’s that?”! The crisscross pattern makes it super flattering while the adjustable straps keep everything firmly in place.
