Ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, Mattel is releasing a new Barbie doll inspired by tennis star Naomi Osaka .

The company says they’re honoring Osaka for being a record-breaking tennis player and champion for change.


Osaka revealed her doll yesterday, tweeting , “I first teamed up with @Barbie in 2019 and today we’re introducing the Barbie Role Model Naomi Osaka doll. I hope every child is reminded that they can be and do anything.”

She also revealed that the doll’s Nike tennis dress Is inspired by her outfit from the 2020 Australian Open.

After beginning her professional tennis career in 2013, Osaka quickly rose through the ranks, eventually making history in 2018 as the first Japanese player to win a major title in a singles match.
