Something no one tells you about having kids is that your mind literally never gets a break from them. Not just because you’re on-duty as “Mom” 24/7, but because they literally just dominate your thoughts at all times. In a new interview with Cosmo, Shakira opens up about the all-consuming mind-racing that is motherhood.

The 44-year-old singer is a mother to Milan, 8, and Sasha, 6, whom she shares with her partner/”baby daddy” (Shakira’s words), Gerard Piqué—who is basically the yin to her yang.

“Having a partner who’s completely opposite in that sense comes in handy. My mind never stops,” she says. “I dream about my kids. I worry about them constantly. I torture my poor husband.”

Shakira is also extremely relatable in explaining how at any given time, she can be any type of mom: “I’m a tiger mom and a helicopter mom and all these different moms,” she joked.

How true is this? Personally, the type of mom I am on any given day depends on my anxiety level. If it’s in check, maybe I’m a Cool, Relaxed, “Yes” Mom. If it’s reaching its peak, I’m likely more of a helicopter mom ready trying not to freak out over every little thing.

Another way many of us can relate to Shakira? Her preferred parenting uniform is her pajamas. (Count this in for another rendition of “Celebrities: They’re Just Like Us.”)

“The outfit my kids love the most is my PJs,” she tells Cosmo. “I’m glad they’re not going to remember their mom like the big pop star onstage covered in glitter.”
