In the latest episode of “The Kardashians” on Hulu, one of the storylines focuses on the Khloe Kardashian melanoma scare fans learned about last fall. Kardashian shares that she had a small lump on her face that “wouldn’t go away,” and she assumed it was just an ordinary blemish.

“Khloé has a little bit of a history with melanoma and cancerous lesions, so this on her face is very concerning to me,” her mom, Kris Jenner, shares during a discussion with her youngest daughter, Kylie, during the episode.

Khloe explains that for about 7-8 months, the spot hadn’t disappeared, so she decided to have it tested.

“I have done one biopsy on this bump that I just assumed was a zit, turns out it’s not a zit,” Khloe explains. “It’s melanoma and for my age, it’s incredibly rare. Melanoma is deadly. This was way more serious than either I understood or I anticipated it to be.”

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, malignant melanoma is less common than the two other skin cancers, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, it’s more dangerous because of its ability to spread to other organs more rapidly if it is not treated at an early stage. Only 20-30% of melanomas are found in existing moles, while 70-80% arise on normal-looking skin.

Thankfully, Khloe received the all-clear from her pathology report after having the tumor on her face surgically removed.

“My doctor got the pathology report back and we got the entire tumor,” she confirms. “All my margins are clear and I’m so relieved, so happy and all I have is a scar that I will figure out later and, you know, so many people aren’t as lucky and I feel really fortunate and really blessed.”

In one of her confessional scenes, Kris discussed her daughter’s health scare: “I know Khloe keeps all of her feelings inside and she doesn’t want anybody else to worry, but I know how worried she was. Khloe is such a love and the heart of the family and I’ve never prayed so hard in all my life. It’s sometimes not easy but I’m just happy it’s over. She got very, very lucky.”

As for Khloe, she urges her fans to get regular skin checks at the dermatologist while she continues to heal.

“I’m good. Everything is great. That waiting process was super not fun… now I’m on the mend.”
