If you’ve ever had the misfortune to experience the pain of a clogged milk duct, then you won’t even blink at this Kristen Bell story. If you haven’t ever experienced mastitis, well, hop along for the ride because this story is still absolutely worth reading.

During her Momsplaining podcast, Bell sits down with actress Katie Lowes recalls the time she had a clogged milk duct back when she was breastfeeding one of her daughters. Luckily, her husband Dax Shepard was more than willing to take one for the team and help his wife out.

“I said to my husband, ‘I just need you to suck this out,'” Bell says on the podcast. “We could talk about it. We could be weird about it, or you could just go ahead and nurse.”

Shepard stepped up to the plate and did what any loving husband and father would do to alleviate his wife’s pain if necessary: he sucked the clog out himself.

“He pulled it out. He had a cup next to him,” Bell explained. “He was pulling out and spitting into this cup, and I’ve never been more in love in my life.”

If you aren’t familiar with clogged ducts, then this story may have you clutching your pearls. If you are familiar, then you already know this is a no-judgment zone. Also? It’s perfectly normal to ask a partner to support you in this way. I experienced mastitis twice and if my husband hadn’t been stuck at work all day, I’d have asked the same of him. It’s that bad.
