The Elf on the Shelf is quarantining this year

COVID-19 is still going to be a factor in our lives come Christmastime. But that doesn't mean the holiday spirit isn't brining hope and cheer.

We know decorating for the holidays early is good for your mental state, and that humor can be good during a stressful time.

That's why we love what parents are doing with the Elf on the Shelf this year. Even the elf is quarantining!

Etsy shop owner and mom of two Jessica Lauren Dawson makes elf masks and says they're flying out like hotcakes.

"This is our new normal, so it makes sense," Dawson told told TODAY Parents.

Dawson is not the only creative mama to get her elf ready to socially distance. Check out these cute creations:

Officially, the Elf on the Shelf creators say "Elves can't catch human sickness," but on the website they note that "it's important for you to know that they are happy to honor the practices of their adopted, human families and they always set a good example! So, your Scout Elf might choose to quarantine or wear a mask when they first arrive to model safety protocols. After all, they love being a member of your family and want to help you stay safe and healthy!"

Mask on, little Elf.
