Uvalde GoFundMe: Here Are All The Fundraisers To Help Victims

In the wake of trauma and crisis, most people want to do what they can to help—this is where GoFundMe usually comes in. Oftentimes, the quickest, easiest way to directly help those in need is by donating to these online fundraisers.

This is why we’ve compiled a list of Uvalde GoFundMe fundraisers that have been set up to help each family affected by the horrific mass shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School earlier this week.

Personally speaking, I can attest to the necessity of a GoFundMe fundraiser as my family was the beneficiary of a fundraiser earlier this year during our own health-related crisis. I can also verify that the funds are considered a gift, which means the recipients are able to receive them tax-free. Only a small percentage of the funds go to the company itself—the donations are immediately deposited into the bank account of the beneficiary.

To put it plainly, this type of financial support can help people through the worst time in their lives, and it’s the kind of support you cherish and hold onto for the rest of your life.

Though there are many ways we can all channel our grief and rage into action in the aftermath of this all-too-common massacre, if you’re looking for a place to start—this is it.

Uvalde GoFundMe fundraisers for victims and their families

Joe and Irma Garcia

Irma Garcia was one of the fourth-grade teachers at Robb Elementary who was killed by the gunman while trying to protect her students. Her husband of nearly 25 years, Joe, tragically died two days later after suffering a heart attack. The Garcias’ family and friends say Joe couldn’t handle the grief of losing his wife in such a brutal way, and say he died “of a broken heart.” The Garcias leave behind four children—the youngest is just 13 years old.

Rogelio Torres

Rogelio was 10 years old and in Mrs. Garcia’s classroom when he was killed.

“Thank you for the prayers and for trying to help find my cousin,it breaks my heart to say my Rojelio is now with the angels,” his cousin wrote on Twitter. “I’ll forever miss you and love you my angel.”

Miah Cerrillo

Miah is an 11-year-old survivor of the Uvalde shooting, but the trauma she suffered as a result will likely require long-term therapy.

After hiding and evading the shooter, she and a fellow classmate were able to grab their dead teacher’s phone to call 911 for help. She told CNN that she was so scared the gunman would return to their classroom that she covered herself in the blood of one of her classmates, who was already dead, so she could also “play dead.” She suffered bullet fragment wounds during the shooting.

Her family has set up a GoFundMe to offset the cost of therapy and medical care—you can donate to Miah’s care here.

Noah Orona

Noah also survived the shooting, but is suffering from physical and mental trauma as a result.

“Noah endured a gunshot wound that will require physical and motor therapies, along with long term cognitive care for the mental trauma of the shooting. Your donation will be gratefully used to help him recover from the mental trauma that has left our little guy with trying to comprehend not only his wounds, but witnessing the suffering of his friends, classmates, and his beloved teachers.”

Layla Salazar

“A tragedy has taken the life of our precious little angel Layla. Our family is devastated. This heart wrenching time has changed us forever. We come to you with a heavy heart to ask for contributions as we are fundraising to pay for funeral expenses. We would be most grateful for your help in our time of need. If people knew how much we truly miss our daughter, they would wonder how we’re still breathing…she will live within the beat of my heart forever.”

Uziyah Garcia

Uziyah, just 8 years old, was also killed during the shooting.

“The sweetest little boy that I’ve ever known,” Garcia’s grandfather, Manny Renfro, told the Associated Press. “I’m not just saying that because he was my grandkid.”

Xavier Lopez

Cousins of Xavier’s family, the Medina family, set up a fundraiser to help his mother, Felicia Martinez, offset funeral costs.

“Her son was tragically taken along with so many other precious angels today in Uvalde, but we as family, know he is now with his Grandpa Benny in the Kingdom of Heaven,” the Medinas write. “Any bit helps and if you cant help at this time, please lift him and all the parents coping this tragedy and loss, up in prayers tonight.”

Amerie Jo Garza

Amerie, 10, was also killed during the shooting. Her father, Angel Garza, tells CNN he’s thankful for all the prayers for his daughter.

“My little love is now flying high with the angels above. Please don’t take a second for granted. Hug your family. Tell them you love them. I love you Amerie Jo. Watch over your baby brother for me.”

Eva Mireles

Eva Mireles was the other fourth-grade teacher that was killed alongside Irma Garcia. Her sister says she hopes people will donate to help her husband, Ruben, and their daughter Adalynn.

“Eva is truly the definition of a hero,” he sister writes on the fundraiser page. “She put her own fears aside to protect her students that day. She was a gift God let us borrow. Our family is torn, we want her back. Nothing will ever fill this void. You never imagine these types of things happening to you or people you may know and now that it has we are forced to deal with this sadness and so many unanswered questions.”

Makenna Lee Elrod

Makenna was a 10-year-old girl who was killed during the shooting.

“I know in the coming weeks my sister is going to be overcome with so much and any support is appreciated,” Makenna’s aunt writes on the GoFundMe page. “Please pray for our family and remember Makenna. She was beautiful, funny, smart, and amazing. She had the biggest heart and loved her family and friends so much. Her smile would light up a room.”

Tess Marie Mata

Tess Marie Mata’s older sister shared the news of her sister’s death on Twitter earlier this week.

Ellie Garcia

“Unfortunately, the Garcia family lost one of their babies Eliahna Garcia to the massive school shooting at Robb Elementry on May 24th,” the fundraiser page reads. “She was born June 4th. This coming week she was going to be turning 10 years old. Eliahna was such a sweet girl with a lovely and beautiful soul. She would light up everyone’s world with big smiles & big hugs.”

Jailah Nicole Silguero

Jailah’s family also needs help paying for her funeral expenses.

Jailah Silguero’s cousin, Jayce, was also killed in the classroom. In a separate Facebook post, Silguero’s mother posted a photo of her daughter and nephew with the caption: “Fly high my angels… We’re going to miss y’all so much.”

Alithia Ramirez

Alexandria Aniyah Rubio

“We live in this really small town in this red state, and everyone keeps telling us, you know, that it’s not the time to be political, but it is — it is,” Alexandria’s mom, Kimberly Rubio, tells the New York Times through tears. “Don’t let this happen to anybody else.”

Maite Rodriguez

Kendall Olivarez

Kendall survived the shooting, but did sustain a gunshot wound as well as bullet fragment injuries. Her aunt, Jennifer, organized the GoFundMe.

“She will be needing several surgeries until she is completely healed. All donations to my niece will be greatly appreciated and will go towards her long road to recovery.”

Official Hub for the Texas Elementary School Shooting Victims Fund

The GoFundMe community and the company’s Trust & Safety team have created and updated an official fundrasing hub with all of the Uvalde-related fundraisers. An organization called VictimsFirst created the verified fundraiser to help the victims’ families during this time.

“We, VictimsFirst (a network of families of the deceased and survivors from over two decades of previous mass shootings) have started this fund to make sure that 100% of what is collected goes DIRECTLY to the victim base so the victims’ families and those wounded/injured are protected from fraud and exploitation.
