The first photos of the royal baby are here! 😍

He's here and he's beautiful. [Update: And his name is Archie!]

Baby Sussex arrived Monday morning and on Wednesday his parents posed for the first public photos as a family of three. Meghan and Harry were both beaming like proud new parents as their son slept in dad's arms.

"He's just been a dream, so it's been a special couple of days," the Duchess formerly known as Meghan Markle told reporters.

"It's great, parenting is amazing," Prince Harry said. "It's only been 2½ days, three days, but we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy, to be able to spend some precious time with him as he slowly starts to grow up."

BBC News on Instagram: “World, meet Prince Harry and Meghan's new baby Archie. Swipe right for a closer look at the new arrival. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex…”

The couple shocked many when they announced that they would not be doing a photo call on the steps of the Lindo Wing like Harry's late mother and sister-in-law did after their births, but would take some private time with their baby first before doing public photos (however, the wait for this photos was not long at all).

Many were expecting a more private photoshoot that would allow Meghan to rest, and photos that were more representative of how most moms feel at 2 days postpartum, but it seems royal tradition won out.

Prince Harry's brother, on the other hand, is looking forward to having a fellow young dad in the family.

Prince William and Duchess Kate spoke to media yesterday. William pointed out that he's actually already an uncle since his sister-in-law Pippa Middleton is also a new mom, but that he's thrilled to now have two nephews.

"I'm very pleased, and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting."

🤣

We're sure Harry will have help at night if he needs it.

Congrats to the royal family on this beautiful new addition!

[Update, May 8: A previous version of this post contained commentary on the photos which can now be found here.]
