The stages of motherhood can take you on a wild ride. One day you bring home a tiny newborn wearing the cutest little onesie and the next you’re dealing with public toddler tantrums. It’s beautiful and overwhelming all at once but no one really talks about how your personal style takes a dip during it all.

Shawna, @herlatestlove, chronicles her life as a mother on TikTok. One of her recent videos shows the hilarious style evolution of moms going through the stages of early motherhood. And, boy, is it spot on.

Shawna shows each period of early motherhood as a different outfit. First she starts off with the new born stage which she very aptly captioned, “comfort only (lady bits are healing).” For this stage she’s wearing a pair of sweatpants with a matching crewneck sweater. The bonus part is that it’s brown—the perfect color for concealing blowout diaper accidents!

Next up is the 6 month outfit which features soft yoga pants and a long T-shirt. She captioned it, “Whatever is not covered in spit up (or poop).” At the one year mark she’s wearing jeans, hooray! Now that Mom has a little more time for herself, she’s not just dressing for comfort. Shawna captioned this stage, “Ready for real pants but no idea what’s in style these days.”

At the two year mark is when the style evolution is slowly starting to find itself again. The caption says, “I bought a new pair of pants and I will wear them every single day of my life.” I love that the pants bring a mix of comfort and fashion to mom style because when you’re running after a spunky two-year-old it doesn’t hurt to feel good in whatever you have on.

The last stage she shows is the three year mark when moms are finally starting to gain more independence. She captioned it, “I’m accepting my new body and starting to find myself + style again.” It can be so hard to find clothes that make you feel fantastic in your new postpartum body. Plus, when you’re caring for a newborn, your own welfare, whether that’s finding clothes you feel confident in or other things, unfortunately takes a backseat.

Between the comments and over 600,000 views, this relatable video seems to have resonated with so many moms out there.
