If you find yourself going about your day then all of a sudden remembering you were supposed to respond to a text message or call someone back days ago, you might just be a mom. Because we’re bad at maintaining communication in relationships with people who live outside our home—but it’s not our fault we’re overstimulated!

Being a mom means juggling a multitude of responsibilities, 24/7. From meeting all of the basic, emotional, and physical needs of our children to managing household chores, running errands, and perhaps even holding down a job, the to-do list absolutely never ends. The result? An overstimulated mom who feels like she’s pulled in a thousand different directions. And we just can’t keep up.

That’s why this hilarious TikTok is the most accurate depiction of overstimulated motherhood and why we stink at getting back to our mom friends and non-mom friends.

@thebalancedmama I either respond right away, or in 3-5 business days. 😅 #momlife ♬ Mom Convo – MiraculouslyCourtney

“Sorry I forgot to text you back. I looked at it at the red light, then it turned green, the kids were screaming, and then I forgot for three days,” just about sums it up better than any of us ever could. Mostly because we’d just forget to anyway.

Basically, moms have a special superpower when it comes to not returning calls and texts promptly. It’s like we have a built-in “mom radar” that detects the exact moment you’re about to dial their number or send a message. While it would be nice to blame it on the idea that our phones have a “Mom Mode” button that renders us mysteriously unresponsive, it’s really that we’re just busy. With important things and with completely dumb things. And we’re tired. So, so tired.
