Infant rocking sleepers from multiple brands are being recalled weeks after Fisher-Price
What parents need to know.
Just two weeks after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced all models of the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play sleeper have been recalled, the CPSC has announced another recall of inclined infant sleepers.
Kids II has voluntarily recalled nearly 694,000 of its Rocking Sleepers after five infants died in the sleepers. Some of the infants “rolled from their back to their stomach while unrestrained,” the CPSC notes
The sleepers were sold between March 2012 and April 2019 at major retailers including Walmart, Target and Toys “R” Us for between $40 and $80. The sleepers were sold under multiple brand names, including: Bright Starts, Ingenuity, DreamComfort, Taggies and Disney Baby.
If you have one of these rocking sleeper, stop using it and contact Kids II for a refund or voucher.
“At Kids II, our number one priority is the safety and well-being of the families who love our brands and use our products,” the company notes in a statement emailed to Motherly and posted on Facebook. “We are devastated by the loss of any child, and our hearts go out to the families affected. We are committed to proactively informing parents on safe sleep habits for all of our sleep products.”
The recall comes after an investigation by Consumer Reports amid growing frustration from parents who say their children sleep best in inclined sleepers. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the safest place for a baby to sleep is “on his or her back on a firm sleep surface such as a crib or bassinet with a tight-fitting sheet.”
Kids II tells Motherly the company has been “actively working with the CPSC to understand and address this issue, we believe there is inconsistency in standards on products marketed for inclined sleep. This must be addressed industry-wide, and we will have an active voice in these discussions to ensure safe sleep solutions.”
