If recalls feel like they are popping up every time you look away for a second, you are not imagining it. Parents are carrying so much already, and safety alerts can easily feel like one more thing on an endless list. A new nationwide recall involving a magnetic building cube set is making headlines, and while the notice is serious, the steps you need to take are thankfully very straightforward.
CreateOn has recalled several Crayola pip Cubes sets after the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that the seams on the cubes can weaken. This can allow the small, powerful magnets inside to come loose. Magnet ingestion is not the same as a child swallowing a typical household magnet. These tiny, high powered versions can cling to each other inside the digestive system and may cause perforations, twisting, or blockages. The CPSC is urging all families who purchased these sets to stop using them immediately.
No injuries have been reported at this time.

Why magnet recalls keep happening
These recalls can feel confusing or scary, especially when the toys come from trusted brands. The truth is that small, high powered magnets follow very strict safety rules because the risks are unique. If more than one magnet is swallowed, or a magnet is swallowed along with another metallic object, they can attract through layers of tissue. Even small manufacturing issues, like a seam that loosens, can create a real hazard.
This is not something you could have predicted, and it is not something you missed. Unfortunately, even well known brands sometimes discover problems after products reach homes.

How to keep kids safe around magnetic toys in general
You do not have to avoid all magnetic toys, but a few simple habits can help reduce stress and keep your home safer:
- Inspect toys regularly for cracks, loose corners, or missing pieces
- Remove any magnetic toy immediately if you see a seam separating
- If a magnet goes missing from a toy, pause play and search until it is found
- If you think your child may have swallowed a magnet, call a doctor right away
- Watch for symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, or fever
A final reminder for parents who feel overwhelmed
If this recall leaves you feeling tense or guilty, take a breath. Catching a recall is not a failure. It is an act of care. Parenting includes a lot of invisible safety work that no one else sees. Reading a recall notice and taking action is exactly what a responsible parent does, not a sign that you should have done something differently before.
Motherly will continue to translate dense safety alerts into clear, calm guidance so you can focus on what matters most: keeping your child safe without carrying unnecessary worry.
