22 products we love for rocking your New Year's resolutions

I have a love-hate relationship with New Year's resolutions. I love the opportunity to reflect on the previous year and assess what's been working well—and what hasn't. But I dislike the pressure of a resolution and feeling like if we don't stick to them, somehow we've failed. Plus, mamas don't need any more pressure than we already have!

Still, every year I make them and I think if we go into it with the right mindset (goodbye, pressure to do it all) then we can start out the year on the right foot. If you're like me, sometimes a treat to incentivize my resolutions is just what I need to really get excited by it, and stick to it.

So, we've curated a list of our favorite gear to help you make those resolutions... and then decide whether or not you actually want to stick to them 😉.

care_of_vitamins

Motherly's Managing Editor, Kaitlyn Russell, loves her Care/of vitamins. This takes the guesswork out and I actually felt more energized and healthier knowing I was getting what I needed. Bonus: they come in one (yes, one!) packet that has your name and a daily quote or fact on it, making it a fun part of your morning routine." Prices start at $5.

Remember to consult with your healthcare provider before starting new vitamins or supplements.

$14.99

"I will get up to date with my health screenings."

perpetual calendar

Honesty time (without an ounce of judgment, promise). When was the last time you got a pap smear? How about a breast exam? And the dentist? Taking care of ourselves so often falls to the bottom of our list, but mama, do you have any idea how important you are? Commit to taking care of yourself. Find a perpetual calendar (or use your phone) and keep track of the dates when you will get your routine screening, tests, vaccines and more. (And then, remember to actually go.)

Psst: Start this resolution off with a trip to your general practitioner. Recommendations vary per person, and they can help you determine when you need to be seen.

$20.50

"I will develop a skincare routine."

the_ordinary

No, I have never washed my face with my husband's body wash because I was too tired to see straight, let alone take care of my skin. Er, well, maybe... once... but enough! The Ordinary has a TON of cult favorites to help you get your skin routine right. And the prices are ah-mazing.

Our MotherlyStories Editor, Conz Preti, is a huge fan. She said, "I started using their stuff after my chin rebelled on me and I had major break outs all over. There was no way of controlling them. Another mom friend recommended the brand and I dove right in, buying their break out specific products. After a week of using them—A WEEK!—my chin was back to normal and has been since. I've stopped using The Ordinary since I've gotten pregnant (unsure if it's pregnancy safe so don't want to risk it) but cannot wait to resume once babies are here. I'd love to explore more of their other stuff! Also, the prices are unbeatable. That's why I decided to try their stuff, if they didn't work, I wouldn't be left with an empty bank account."

One note of caution, from our friends at The Ordinary: "While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol." In general, it's always a good idea to check with your provider before starting to use a new product, especially when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

$14.80

"I will be more present with my kids."

mindful_kids

These guided mindfulness activity cards are perfect for encouraging our kids (and, ahem, us) to become fully present in the moment.

$13.29

"I will use more natural products."

first_honey

There has been a lot of excitement about the use of manuka honey when it comes to natural ways to fight bacterias and viruses—and it is based on evidence! If you're interested in incorporating some more nature-based health remedies, we love the First Honey line of first aide products. I've tried them on a few of my kids' boo-boos (and my own), and i've been really impressed with them!

$8.49

"I will make ordinary moments magical."

body_wash

So often we rush from one task to the next, without stopping to consider the beauty all around us. Take time to find magic in the mundane. Whether it's by treating yourself to some luxurious aromatherapy body wash, to simply watching the clouds overhead, see if you can find a few moments every day to be mindful of all that is good.

Things We're Loving

I admit it: We struggle with screen time in my house. My 4-year-old is a rambunctious consumer of entertainment and most of his beloved forms come in the mini screen of my cell phone. I do, however, do my best to fill that screen with the most educational kid's apps that exist, and one of his favorites is the world of Sago Mini. Their apps are fun, playful, and yes, help him learn something too.

So imagine our excitement when we found out that Sago Mini is bringing that experience offline with an IRL kid's toy subscription service that sends open-ended toys to you about once a month. The service officially launches today and it's perfect for kids aged 3-5. It costs about $19 a month or $15 a month if you pay for an annual subscription.

The Sago Mini box

The first set of boxes will have planes, road trip and fairy tales themes. ✨The box we tried was road-trip themed and it came with everything your little needs to get off the phone and into their imagination. I loved that even the box itself can be turned into a toy by disassembling it and rebuilding it inside out. Because we all know that sometimes our kid's favorite toy ends up being the box it was shipped in!

The kit comes with three make and play activities, all designed to build off each other. For example, our road trip box came with a felt "road" that my son loved draping all over the furniture, and a cardboard car with wooden wheels in one activity pack. Then the second activity pack had destinations your child can "drive" their car to like Grandma's house, school and a gas station.

I especially appreciated that they kept an eye on sustainability (and cute design!) when creating these play materials. All the paper materials that come in the box are made from recycled goods or sourced from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC certified). The best part? My son played with his set for a good few hours—and never asked for my phone once.

Kim Kardashian West has recently been in the spotlight for her home design—it's incredibly minimalist, with lots of white, bright (but barely there) details—and it got many mamas wondering: How do multiple kiddos live there? Because no matter how much we love minimalism, it can be hard to maintain when toys seem to pop up out of nowhere.

Well, she gave us a sneak peek into her kids' playroom today on Instagram Stories. "You guys always say my house is so minimal—well, you guys haven't seen my playroom," shares Kardashian West.

So now we get it. Among the super-cool details (hello, concert stage and movie projector), her four little ones do play with a ton of toys. Some toys, in fact, that our own kids play with!

Here are some of our favorite toys that we spotted in Kim Kardashian's playroom:

Melissa & Doug Wooden Grocery Store

melissa and doug grocery cart

One of Motherly mamas' favorite interactive play sets. Complete with a hand cranked conveyor belt, a beeping scanner and swipe machine. Plus, it looks beautiful in any playroom. (It was adorable watching Kim show us how it works.)

$175.10

CAT Construction Fleet Dump Truck

kids toy drump truck

Littles will love putting items in the back of the dump truck. Even better, it's great for both indoor and outdoor play (even works great in sand!).

$10.99

Sesame Street Big Bird Toy

sesame street toy

This super soft plush toy is a classic with a twist. Yes, it's Big Bird, your child's friend from Sesame Street, but with an artsy twist by Kaws. It's just a tiny detail in the toy's eyes that makes it different and so much cooler.

$100

Learning Resources Pretend Play Food

pretend play baked goods

With 15 pieces, kids have everything they need to bake cookies and cupcakes. Bonus points for working on their hand-eye coordination with the rolling pin, spatula and mixing bowl.

$17

KidKraft Lil' Symphony Guitar

kidkraft kids guitar

The Kardashian West kids might just take after their dad practicing their music skills with this wooden guitar. With nearly 400 positive reviews, this is a favorite for many mamas.

$22.49

LEGO Classic Box

lego classic

Kids can build and bring anything to life with this set—484 pieces total. Kim has the Legos organized by colors in her drawers, but we like this box to drop everything in.

$27.86

100-Piece Wooden Train Set

wooden train set

A gorgeous wooden train set for kids of all ages. This one comes with multiple tracks, bridges, buildings and vehicles to create the ultimate experience.

$42.99

Melissa & Doug Toy Shopping Cart

We doubt Kim Kardashian does her own grocery shopping, but her little ones seem to love this pretend play grocery cart. It pairs perfectly with the grocery mart above!

$57.99

London Doll Pram Stroller

kids london doll pram

This gorgeous stroller is the sweetest accessory for kids who enjoy playing with baby dolls. It's big enough to fit all different types, from small Barbies to larger ones. Plus, the wheels don't swivel so it's easy for small hands to push around.

The end of my twin pregnancy is around the corner and my skin is being put to the test. I previously shared all the products I use to keep my belly moisturized and (hopefully) stretch mark-free, but I've come across a new oil that happens to be one of Meghan Markle's favorite products from her pregnancy. So of course I had to test it out. I may not be royalty (or former royalty) but my skin deserves the best of the best.

Here's proof that at 35 weeks pregnant—but measuring more like 45 weeks—I'm keeping my belly glowing like a full moon, or so I like to think.

The stretch mark oil is made by Avishi Organics, a company that focuses on ayuverdic therapeutic skin care treatments. Their products are the culmination of years of research and are all made with certified organic ingredients that leave skin radiant and glowing. All of their products are pregnancy and baby safe, which was a key thing for me before I set out to test them.

Here is what I thought of it:

Intensive stretch mark oil

Avishi Organics Intensive Stretch Mark Oil

Compared to other stretch mark oils I've used in the past, this one has a much stronger scent. I thought that was going to put me off, but it's so good I find myself rubbing the leftovers on my hands and sniffing them throughout the day. The oil absorbs super fast and doesn't stain clothes. So far I've been applying once a day, however it's recommended to apply twice daily for 8-12 weeks to help existing stretch marks fade faster, which I'm planning to do when the inevitable happens.

So is it worth it? My skin has been super soft and moisturized since I started applying it regularly. I've also noticed my belly is less itchy than it was a week ago, which I take is all the nourishing products in the oil working their magic on my skin. The bottle is only 4 ounces, which makes the price a bit steep, but I've only needed two pumps of it to cover my entire belly so far, so I think the small bottle will go a long way.

Because I've seen changes in my skin already and also because the smell of it has turned into a pleasant surprise, I highly recommend this to other pregnant people with itchy and tight skin.
