Nikki Martin

Dr. Nikki Martyn is the Program Head of Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber. Since taking leadership, Dr. Martyn has led all administrative and academic aspects of the program, managed faculty while guiding course development and finding opportunities for innovative learning, and overseen the redevelopment of the program curriculum, and the development of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Completion program for working professionals. With more than 15 years of experience in children’s mental health, Dr. Martyn has a background in both clinical child psychology and early childhood education, with a specific expertise in infant mental health. She founded MindWerx4Kids Early Learning Centre and Primary School, an innovative, integrated, therapeutic early learning centre and elementary school, and also worked as Infant Mental Health Specialist at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre, a children mental health centre. Dr. Martyn holds a Doctorate in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. In addition to her experience at the University of Guelph-Humber, Dr. Martyn has taught at Ryerson University and York University. She was a recipient of a University of Guelph-Humber research grant to explore the effects of medical trauma on the diagnosis of Autism. Dr. Martyn was also the winner of Humber College’s Student Appreciation Award for Mentorship and the University of Guelph John Bell award for academic leadership.
