You know...THAT one.
I grew up wondering many things but was hushed quickly. My parents would try to nurture what they could but the school I attended and the society we STILL live in doesn't like children asking hard questions. They aren't supposed to have hard questions, especially little girls, who seem to have extra layers of nonsense to contend with when they give voice to deep thoughts.
If I spent all my time dreading the "wait untils" or worrying about the next difficult thing around the corner, when would I have time to enjoy all the wonderful, amazing, incredible things that a child brings to a parent's life?
Narrate what you see and do. Ask them questions. React to their verbalizations... There truly is no downside to it.
When you have the impulse to say no, see if you can find words that accomplish these goals instead.
Good communication with you forms the basis of good communication with other people as your child grows into an adult.
It may be our strengths that define us, but it is our differences that, when allowed, loved and respected, round us out and make us whole.
