Raise your hand if your gas and electric bill is taking you hostage this winter—can’t just be me. My kids are notorious thermostat crankers. My oldest son loves to plant himself next to the heater to read, wearing a T-shirt and basketball shorts (obviously), wrapped in a throw blanket dragged from the couch

It wasn’t until I saw that the term “blanket hoodies for kids” was being heavily searched (the life of a gift guide editor) that I stumbled upon The Comfy Jr. ($25.99). Apparently, I missed the brand’s “Shark Tank” launch in 2017.

If you too are wincing while recalling the Snuggie commercials of the early aughts, I get where your head’s at. I had to shake off my own judgments before deciding that this is an entirely different animal. My 6- and 9-year-old kids clearly both needed one, so I went for it.

What sets The Comfy Jr. apart

The oversize fit is super comfortable, while still managing to be functional. It’s also long enough to keep their thighs warm without becoming a tripping hazard.

The sleeves are loose around the arms but the ribbed cuffs make it easy to roll them up for handwashing and keeping hands free. There’s also a huge kangaroo-style pocket.

The sherpa lining is ridiculously soft and warm—I know this because my youngest insisted that I try it on. With the hood pulled up, you feel like you’re wrapped in a cozy cloud, which also makes them great for napping.

Once I saw how much my kids liked them, I couldn’t wait to get rid of their robes, which were constantly sliding off and ending up on the floor. The Comfy Jr. is easy to wash and perfect for chilly mornings, curling up on the couch during the evenings, and throwing on for long road trips.

What to know before you buy The Comfy Jr.

It comes in one size, so the good news is that the stress of trying to match a size chart is off the table. It does mean that the fit will vary slightly, most notably in length. It has a high-low cut so it’s longer in the back, which keeps it from riding up when you sit.

Where to buy The Comfy Jr.

You can grab one on Amazon (which happens to be on sale!) or directly from The Comfy website. There are also adult versions of The Comfy, if you feel so inclined. Since my kids are practically living in theirs, I think it’s time my husband and I joined the ranks. Maybe we’ll look back at family photos of ourselves all donning Comfys and cringe, but at least we’ll know we were warm.
