It's right about this time of the year when we start craving summer. Like, literally, mouth-watering for it. And judging by your baby's drool, we think he or she wants to get in on that ocean action too. This year, BabyBjörn gave us that extra nudge to get planning with a limited edition Watercolor Collection. Trust us, these serene sea-inspired hues (think “Ice-Blue Fish" and “Coral Crab") on the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One, Bouncer Balance Soft and Travel Crib will have you dreaming of ocean scenes all year long. Plus, they'll look pretty sweet during your own summer getaway to the beach this summer.
Here's 3 baby-friendly beach towns around New York City that we can't wait to hit this summer, and 3 tips that will make your own trip a total (sea)breeze.
1. Rockaways, Queens
Distance from NYC: Um, none.
Where to Go: A quick subway ride and you've arrived in the Rockaways for an easily accessible NYC beach day. While you're catching some rays, let baby catch some zzz's — since it's easy to transport, set up and fold, your super-light BabyBjörn travel crib will fit perfectly beside your beach blanket. Just don't forget an umbrella!
What to Do with Kids: The Rockaway Beach Boardwalk is filled with delicious food, fun shops and plenty of people watching. Try Playland Motel's family-friendly Grill for breakfast or lunch, or head over to Jacob Riis Park, which features its own weekend Beach Bazaar of hip food vendors, music and shopping.
2. Bay Head, N. J.
Distance from NYC: 1.5 hours
Where to Stay: For a Jersey Shore visit, a rental house is the best way to go. Choose the beach side of town for easy ocean access, or try a bay-side home for a quieter visit. While your rental will likely have most of the things that make it feel like “home," help your baby feel even more comfortable by bringing along a BabyBjörn Balance Soft so you can ALL relax all week long. It's perfect for mealtime, playtime and naptime while traveling, plus it folds flat for easy storage.
What to Do with Kids: Bay Head's got a quiet, old-school vibe, with plenty of cute spots to eat and shop. For a little more action, head over to Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Pt. Pleasant Beach just 10 minutes away.
3. Hither Hills State Park, Montauk
Distance from NYC: 3 hours.
Where to Stay: As a earthy alternative to the million-dollar homes in the Hamptons (and now Montauk too!), set up camp at Hither Hills State Park. Reserve your spot early -- this campsite is a hot ticket and even limits its nightly stay. If tents aren't your thing, Hither Hills allows RVs too, which will come in handy to explore the fun family-friendly town nearby.
What to Do with Kids: It's easy enough to wander down to the beach of course, but Montauk is also filled with tons of hiking trails, so make sure to bring your comfortable and versatile BabyBjörn Carrier One. Get yourself a lobster roll at where else, Lobster Roll Restaurant on Route 27. And go ahead, leave baby with your partner for a few hours and treat yourself to a massage at Gurney's Inn. After all that camping, you deserve it.
