Name: Jennifer Mayer Neighborhood: Prospect Heights Occupation: Doula and Owner of Baby Caravan Baby’s Sex: Surprise! How would you describe your pregnant style? A little boho, a little modern hippie...pretty casual, but put together. I spend my days running around the city visiting clients and working from home, so I need to be comfortable. I tend to stick to one good pair of maternity jeans or black leggings, a basic T or tank and a fun sweater or wrap top. I’ve found I can still wear a lot of my pre-pregnancy cardigans, hoodies and wraps, which helps the variety of my pregnancy wardrobe. Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during pregnancy? Yes! I feel like each week my body changes and I found myself creating a weekly outfit to work from with different variations. There are so many changes that the pregnant body goes through pretty rapidly, so it’s been a constant challenge to find clothes that fit just right. So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy? I’ve always been really close with my family, but the pregnancy has brought me even closer. This baby has lots of eager grandparents who are so excited to meet him or her. I also find myself calling my mom and sister quite often; thank goodness I’ve got them to answer all my baby questions! Even though I've been a doula for 10 years, there's nothing like the power of reassurance. What’s been your favorite pregnancy piece or brand to show off your bump? My favorite pregnancy item has been the maternity jeans I got from A Pea in the Pod. I’m so glad I invested early in some quality denim, because I wear them nearly every day. I’ve also ordered a size up from my regular size at Alternative Apparel for basics. What NYC experience are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby? I’m looking forward to experiencing the city through a new lens. There are so many fun family things to do here, I’m pretty excited to go exploring and see new things. I’m really looking forward to showing our baby Brooklyn Bridge Park in the summer, in particular.
