All ten half-hour episodes dropped on Tuesday.
The series centers around two magical friends who leave the Land of Frozen Food to work in a supermarket owned by Mrs. Obama.
The show's description says, "With the help of friendly new faces like the supermarket owner, Mrs. Obama, and a magical flying shopping cart as their guide, Waffles and Mochi blast off on global ingredient missions traveling to kitchens, restaurants, farms, and homes all over the world, cooking up recipes with everyday ingredients alongside renowned chefs, home cooks, kids, and celebrities."
Those adventures take the adorable puppets to countries like Japan, Mexico, Peru, and more. Each episode focuses on a new ingredient, like finding out whether tomatoes are a fruit or a vegetable, what kind of dishes you can make with potatoes, and how rice has been used by cultures throughout history. Parents can also keep an eye out for celebrity cameos, including actors Zach Galifianakis and Rashida Jones, and Queer Eye's Tan France.
Mrs. Obama, who championed children's health and nutrition during her time as First Lady, says the show is dear to her heart. She announced the project on social media back in January, writing, "Kids will love it, but I know that adults will also get plenty of laughs—and some tips for the kitchen."
She continued, "In many ways, this show is an extension of my work to support children's health as First Lady—and to be quite honest, I wish a program like this had been around when my girls were young. I also know that this is a difficult time for so many families, and I'm hopeful that this delightful show can bring a bit of light and laughter to homes around the world."
In addition to educating kids about different foods and cultures, Waffles + Mochi is also serving up support for a good cause. The show is pairing with the Partnership for a Healthier America to raise money to fight food insecurity in the U.S.—a problem that's gotten worse since the pandemic began. The goal is to donate one million meals, and you can help at wafflesandmochi.org.
