It’s always a good idea to usher in good energy into your home every few months. Sure it would be nice to frequently repaint, choose new wallpaper or even update your bedroom furniture, but that’s not exactly realistic—or cost efficient. That’s why we look to home decor accessories to quickly change the mood of rooms.

But before you hit your favorite stores in search of home decor, consider creating the crafts yourself. There are scores of projects that you can DIY right at home in less time than it takes to watch your favorite Netflix show. Think of it as a cool way to spend your time, money and energy with items you already have on hand.

We’ve created a short list of a few easy, DIY home decor ideas that will help breathe new life into your home:

Create felt succulent boxes

Allergic to flowers but still love the look and tranquility they bring? We hear you, mama. Create your own succulent pairings! Grab a glue gun, green felt and adhere the small pieces to your favorite pot. Once you’re done, use them to style your mantle, dining room table and nightstand. Best of all, they’ll never die.

Update toddler pillows

There’s something about pillows that make us feel warm and fuzzy inside. Pillows are comforting and easily allow you to add your personal style to any room. To upgrade your pillows in any room you want to feel inviting, grab embellishments like ribbons, beads, sequins and appliqués and hand-sew or iron them into a design you like.

Plant-covered everything

Brighten your space with planters of various sizes . Don’t be afraid to get creative and hang them over kitchen windows, desks and even your bed. If you really want to show off your green thumb, turn a bar cart into a plant cart and house 10-12 different types of plants on it.

Decorate your toddler’s headboard in bold colors

Elevate their headboard to a beautiful piece of art with spray paint.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Clean the headboard well with ammonia and water.
  2. Rinse and dry completely.
  3. Place the headboard upside down, then paint the underside of the headboard first.
  4. Apply white primer to the entire headboard. Let dry.
  5. Spray on desired paint color.

To be fair, the entire process of cleaning and repainting a headboard is much more than 10 minutes—even if it’s a tiny frame. But, if you’re committed to decorating in under 10 minutes, opt for big, colorful stickers instead.

Create wall art

Buying new wall art is expensive. And, the larger it is, the more pricey it becomes. If you’re tired of your wall art but not ready to fork over cash, create your own. We love that Dazzle allows you to unleash your creativity. Just choose your material and let your creative juices flow.

Design stencil doormats

Doormats should be a clear reflection of your personal style and (if you choose) sense of humor. They are the first thing that guests see when they enter your home, so why not make them special? If you have time, create your own stencil, if not, use these as a starting point. Paint or spray paint them in black or bold colors like green, red and yellow.
