Bella Ramsey is just 19 and has already landed some pretty amazing acting roles—from Lyanna Mormont on “Game of Thrones” to, most recently, Ellie on “The Last of Us.” Sadly, in a new interview, they explain that they had some setbacks as a child actor due to their appearance.

Ramsey, who is nonbinary and uses any pronouns, recently told GQ that casting agents were reluctant to offer her jobs because she didn’t fit certain criteria: The “Hollywood look.” Whatever that means.

“I was told in one of my first auditions ever that the director really liked me, but I didn’t get the part because I didn’t have the ‘Hollywood look,'” she explains in a now-viral clip. “That’s something I’ve always found interesting.”

It’s so hard and confusing and tender being a child as it is, to be called out for your appearance—specifically told that the way you look isn’t “right”—must have been so incredibly painful.

Obviously, Ramsey has the right look for two incredibly amazing and beloved HBO characters. But it’s also really depressing to think about a director liking your work and appreciating your talent and not casting you because you don’t look like a carbon copy of every other child actor your age.

Fans of Ramsey’s agree, and said as much on Twitter.

Luckily, Ramsey (and their talent) isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. They’ll be part of “The Last of Us” for as long as the show will have her.

“Signing on to a series is such a risk, because if I hate this, then I’m potentially tied into it for years, and I didn’t want to be tied into something I didn’t enjoy,” Ramsey says to GQ. “But I would honestly do this for years.”
