Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just donated an enormous amount of diapers in a grand gesture to support pregnant people experiencing homelessness, and we love to see it.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s foundation, Archewell, is working in partnership with Pampers and Proctor & Gamble to support the opening of a new residence under Harvest Home, a Los Angeles-based organization that works to uplift homeless pregnant women and their children by providing housing and supportive programming.

“Pallets and pallets of diapers …we are so grateful!” wrote the Harvest Home team on Instagram. “Thank you [for] helping us ensure that our moms and babies have all they need in our homes!”

This donation actually marks the second time Meghan and Harry have supported Harvest Home. On Mother’s Day, Archewell fulfilled the organization’s entire donation wishlist, which included hundreds of diapers as well as stockpiles of cleaning supplies to keep residents well-provided for.

“Pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for any mother, but it can be especially difficult for pregnant women of color and those who come from under-resourced and vulnerable communities,” states a press release published on the Archewell Foundation’s website. “Harvest Home offers these women welcoming and comfortable housing and goes to great lengths to provide programs that help them start their mothering journey on a stronger foot, benefiting their families for generations to come.”

Approximately 5,000 pregnant women experience homelessness in Los Angeles County every year, and in 2019, homelessness increased by 16%. Women make up 30% of the total homeless population in the area.

On Mother’s Day, Meghan wrote a personal letter to Harvest Home while she was pregnant with Lili:

“As a mom, and an expectant mom, I deeply appreciate the significance of community support, safe and accessible pregnancy resources, and trusted guidance in a nurturing setting,” shares Meghan. “These ingredients are essential to not just our physical health, but our mental well-being, and I commend you for leading a compassionate community that lives these values.”

“Thank you for all you do for the women and mothers who are turned away elsewhere, at no fault of their own,” she writes. “When we consider how vulnerable any mother feels during the fragile time of pregnancy, we gain perspective about how especially difficult it can be for pregnant women of color and those who come from under-resourced and vulnerable communities. I hope you will accept an offer of support to help further uplift Harvest Home’s residents.”
