When you’re whole life is in the public eye, you might end up craving some privacy during special moments like the birth of your first child. For Paris Hilton, that’s exactly why she kept the birth of her son a secret from family and friends for one whole week, People reports.

Paris Hilton didn’t tell her mom she had a baby for a whole week. The reality star, 42, and her husband, Carter Reum, 42, spent the first few days of their son’s arrival celebrating their happiness in private.

The new mom opened up on her iHeartRadio podcast “This Is Paris” about how she and her husband came to the decision of “keeping everything really private.”

“Not even my mom, my sisters, my best friend knew until he was over a week old,” Hilton shared on the podcast. “It was really nice to have that with Carter, be our own journey together. I just feel like my life has been so public, and I’ve never really had anything be just mine.”

Hilton added that her life has been “invaded” by the public eye on multiple occasions. As for her husband, the entrepreneur who already shares a daughter with former reality star, Laura Bellizi, Hilton shared that he “has always been a really private person.”

“So when we were talking about it, I really felt that I wanted this journey to be for us only,” although, she said, it was “hard to keep that in.”

“Because we were so excited and wanted to tell our families, but we were just nervous because if you tell a person, then they tell someone, and all the sudden, it’s in TMZ or Page Six, and I’ve had enough of my life like that,” she explained. “So Carter and I literally made a pact together that we would not tell anyone, and no one knew until just recently.”

So, that’s how her mother, Kathy Hilton, didn’t meet her new grandson until he was about a week old.

“When I introduced my mom to our baby boy, it was amazing to see the look on her face. She was so surprised — just the look on her face, it was priceless.”

Hilton revealed her son’s name only recently along with a couple of beautiful first portraits of the little one on social media.

“We are just so happy and feel so blessed. He is so perfect, and it’s amazing being a mom,” she added.

Kathy Hilton also released an exclusive statement to PEOPLE sending her well-wishes to the happy parents, “Paris and Carter, we know you are going to be the most amazing parents,” Kathy said. “We are so thrilled for you both! Thank you for this perfect addition to our ever-growing, beautiful family.”
