And research proves Kim's right.
In many ways, mom of three Kim Kardashian West leads a unique life, but this weekend she showed the world her definition of "the good life" doesn't actually include red carpets, product launches or private jets. It's way more ordinary than that.
Through an Instagram post, Kardashian describes "the good life" the same way we would: As a lazy, pajama-clad weekend morning spent lounging in bed with the kids.
It's definitely not the most glamorous selfie Kim's ever shared, but the pic of her snuggled up with baby Chicago, Saint and North is probably the most relatable.
Whether you're juggling reality TV schedules, a more conventional 9 to 5 job or managing the mammoth to-do lists that come with running a household as a stay-at-home parent, a lot of days, we moms can feel like life is moving at a breakneck pace.
That's what makes moments like the one Kardashian posted so special. A slow Saturday morning when mama doesn't have to rush, when she can just take her time and enjoy simply being with her children, that's what it's all about.
A study out of Baylor University backs up Kardashian's feelings and our own. It found that pleasant family leisure at home (or in bed, in Kardashian's case) is more satisfying than new adventures.
"The best predictor of happiness for families may be spending quality time together in familiar activities inside the home. And that's great news for families who have little time or few resources," says the study's lead author, Karen K. Melton, Ph.D., an assistant professor of child and family studies in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences.
"That may be because when the brain is focused on processing new information—such as taking part in an unfamiliar activity with unfamiliar people in a new location—less 'brain power' is available to focus on the family relationships," she explains.
There are definite benefits to having new and exciting experiences with our kids, but Melton's work (and Kim's selfie) prove that downtime is just as important.
Unlike Kim Kardashian, most of us don't have the money or time to jet our kids off on multiple vacations, but we can definitely set aside a few weekend hours to lounge and laugh in our pajamas. Kardashian is so right: That is totally the definition of "the good life."
