Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter are the Hollywood couple you never knew you should be obsessed with—until now. While some of us have seen their love shine on social media (he constantly defends his wife when people have the audacity to discuss her body), a lot of people may not know that these two are adorably perfect for one another. And now thanks to a viral clip from their appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, everyone knows.

In the clip, Barrymore asks Ritter when he knew that Lynskey was the one for him.

“It’s not as cute of a story as you would like to think,” Ritter says, then talks about how he was dealing with “some alcoholism issues” when he first met his now-wife.

“I knew how amazing she was, and I thought she would be incredible for someone…someone who deserved her. And I didn’t feel like I was that person,” he admitted.

Cue the waterworks. From everyone.

“So it was only after like maybe a year into not drinking where I started to go, ‘Oh, maybe I can promise some things to someone else. Maybe I can be this person.’ And it’s been like a slow burn,” Ritter continued. “So I knew that she was incredible. It was working on myself enough to feel like maybe I could be the one for her too.”

Lynskey grabbed her husband’s hand and agree that things were “hard” back then, but applauded how hard he’s worked on himself and how proud she is of him.

“I think, well, this is first of all, the best person in the world and I just knew it,” Lynskey said. “Like, even though mistakes were made along the way, you had such a good heart. And also, he was always so willing like, every time I said, ‘I really need to talk to you about something,’ he would be like, ‘What is it? What is it?’ Like, so present, wanting to have the conversation and so willing to take responsibility. And we just kept growing.”

Ritter is the son of legendary actor John Ritter, who died very suddenly of an aortic dissection in 2003. At the time, the “Three’s Company” actor was working on a new hit sitcom, “8 Simple Rules … for Dating My Teenage Daughter,” when he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Barrymore also applauded Ritter’s efforts, and acknowledged how hard it is to walk away from alcohol when you’re reliant on it for many reasons.

“The narrative that one creates is that I can’t be with someone. And I haven’t been in a relationship since I stopped drinking,” Barrymore said, noting that she hasn’t had a drink in four years. “I’m really looking forward to one day not having that bad girl narrative, the instability, the ‘I’m not someone who’s right to be with anyone for their sake.’”

After watching this clip, two things become incredibly evident: One, Drew Barrymore is killing the daytime talkshow game (along with Kelly Clarkson, to be sure), and two, Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter are realistic, vulnerable #goals.
