Times are tough all around. From inflation driving up the cost of raising a child to trying your best to minimize that special kind of tears and tantrums that the holidays seem to bring out in little ones.

You know we’re in the thick of holiday season, holiday cheer and the spirit of giving when an unknown person pays off layaway costs for a single mother who is trying to make ends meet. KOAA news caught up with the single mom, Lisa, and spoke to her about her “layaway angel.”

The Colorado Springs local news station reports that Lisa had a special message to give to the person who stepped in and helped her, and her family, out when they needed it the most. She said, “I want to say thank you to whoever that was that went out there and did that. I really appreciate it.”

Lisa seems like everybody else just trying to make ends meet every day but especially for the holidays. Except, Lisa also has to deal with partial paralysis. A staff member at the local Burlington store where Lisa had items on layaway called her and left a message to inform her about the generous person who paid off her layaway bill.

And it couldn’t have come a better time because, she says, she was considering returning all of her items. Items, she says, that also included Christmas gifts for her children. If that isn’t the epitome of a mom struggling to make holiday magic for her kids, then I don’t know what is.

Although Lisa works part-time and receives disability paychecks, inflation has made things much harder for the single mom. Just like it has for most families across America, everybody is looking for smart-money tips in these tough times.

“It’s not easy nowadays from food to utilities to, you know, just paycheck to paycheck, gas money,” Lisa adds.

But, that’s not stopping her from paying the kindness forward.

“I fully believe that everyone can do good for someone. We may not have the money, we may not have a penny in our pocket to give. But whether it’s an encouraging word or some kind of support, I think we all can do good for others,” she continues.

Unlike a lot of things, an act of kindness or a supportive word is without a doubt 100% free. At a time when inflation is making life hard for so many people, a meaningful gesture can also be the most precious gift someone receives from you. The good you do or teach your children to do is, in and of itself, a lovely gift to give a loved one or a complete stranger any day of the year.
