Looking for a new family movie night favorite? Well, the first “Pinocchio” live-action trailer was just released by Disney+ and, of course, it looks amazing.

With Tom Hanks playing the lonely woodcarver Gepetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio (you might recognize him from the Disney+ film, “Flora & Ulysses), Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring as everyone’s favorite “conscience,” Jiminy Crickett and Luke Evans as the sinister coachman, this film is sure to blow away any expectations.

The story follows Gepetto whose wish gets granted by the Blue Fairy for his puppet, Pinocchio, to turn into a real boy. Well, if you’ve seen the animated Disney classic from 1940, ready any of the kids books, or, maybe, even come across the original Italian children’s book from 1883, “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi, then you know that in order to Pinocchio to become a real living boy he must first embark on a journey of self- discovery.

Disney+ is releasing the live-action remake, along with a list of other exciting premiers as part of its annual celebration event, Disney+ Day, on September 8. Look out for “Frozen” and “Frozen 2” sing alongs as well as the premiere of “The Simpsons” short film “Welcome to the Club.”

“Pinocchio” isn’t the only retelling featuring the famous puppet that’s expected to be coming out this year. Netflix is rumored to be creating their own stop-motion animated film about Pinocchio, slated to be released some time in December.

Disney is also hard at work on other live-action remakes. “The Little Mermaid” is scheduled for release on May 23, 2023, as well as, “Peter Pan & Wendy.” Plus, release dates for the following planned live-action remakes have yet to be announced: “Lilo & Stitch,” “Hercules,” “Robin Hood” and “Bambi.”
