Here’s the thing about fall. While we’re ready for all things boots and pumpkins, the weather can make getting dressed feel a bit all over the place. The morning might be chilly followed by a scorching afternoon and cool again when the sun goes down. The answer to all your fashion woes? A shacket.
What is a shacket?
Chances are, you’ve already got one in your closet. The shacket—otherwise known as a shirt jacket–gets my vote as the most versatile piece of clothing in one’s fall wardrobe. When it comes to transitioning seasons, shackets are ideal for layering and (depending on where you live) can carry you right on through winter. In most cases, they resemble a traditional button-down shirt with chest pockets and collars, but are generally made from a thicker wool, flannel or quilted material.
But what I love so much about shackets is that there’s a version for every style sensibility. From refined silhouettes with belted waists to slouchy oversize cuts that look like you swiped them from your husband’s closet, a shacket can take a simple jeans and T-shirt outfit to the next level.
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite shackets from plaid to flannel that will make getting dressed completely effortless–no matter what kind of weather the day brings.
