Home / News / Celebrity News Reese Witherspoon, Gigi Hadid and Kerry Washington are the voting inspiration we need Have you voted yet? By Heather Marcoux October 27, 2020 Rectangle Election Day is almost here and celebrities are getting out to vote. It’s arguably one of the most important elections of our lives, so we can’t underestimate how important it is for everyone who can vote to exercise that right. That’s why we’re happy to see so many celebs taking the time to vote and encourage others to do the same. For some celebrities, 2020 is the first time they are using their right to vote. For others, 2020 isn’t the first time and won’t be the last. Some voted by mail, some headed to early polls and some will no doubt be standing in line on Election Day. No matter what your plan for voting, the important thing is that you do it. These celebrities are inspiring us with their stories of voting in the 2020 election: Gigi Hadid voted with her baby daughter by her side New mom Gigi Hadid voted with her daughter by her side, and is asking her followers to vote, too. In a widely-shared Instagram post, Hadid explained that she is voting “for an America I want her to see; but not just for us- for fellow Americans that are less privileged, with hope for a nation that is unified, that is empathetic, & for a leader that is compassionate.” Ali Wong was incognito at the ballot box One of our fave funny mamas, Ali Wong rocked a ‘vote’ shirt and a COVID/sun-protection combo that rendered her unrecognizable at the ballot box. “Drop it like it’s hot” she captioned an Instagram snap of her ballot. Reese Witherspoon voted early Mom of three Reese Witherspoon has already cast her ballot. She captured the moment with a selfie on Instagram. “I did it! Did you? Feels good to exercise my right to VOTE,” she wrote. “I like to think that ray of light coming through the trees is ALL of the women who came before me who did not have this fundamental right.” Shonda Rhimes: ‘I voted. Did you?’ Everybody’s favourite show runner, Shonda Rhimes, already voted and has the sticker to prove it. “I voted. Did you?” she asked her fans in a video message on Instagram. Kerry Washington voted in red, white and blue Keri Washington, a mom of three, voted early (at the urging of Michelle Obama) and posed in a patriotic outfit while urging other celebrities to take up the challenge. Jana Kramer voted for the first time! 👏 Jana Kramer confessed to her Instagram fans that she hasn’t voted in previous elections, but took the time to cast a ballot in 2020. “I hate to admit this but I am anyways….This is the first time I’ve ever voted,” she captioned a selfie with her husband, Mike Caussin (who also hadn’t voted before this year, according to Kramer). “I don’t know why but I always felt like my vote didn’t matter,” she writes. “But this year I just felt differently and I know more than ever it does matter.” Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds voted (and caused controversy) Okay, so Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were among the first celebrity parents to post a voting selfie to Instagram…and when they did they caused an internet controversy. They actually posted the exact same photo on each of their respective accounts. But there was one difference. The unretouched photo on Reynold’s account shows Lively barefoot, while the version the mom of three posted has shoes drawn onto her feet? It’s an interesting photo edit choice, but with all the chaos happening in 2020 we’re happy Blake gave us a low-stakes controversy to chat about. Elizabeth Banks has cast her vote Mom of two Elizabeth Banks voted early and is encouraging other mamas to do the same if possible. Kevin Jonas has already voted Father of two Kevin Jonas has cast his ballot because isn’t that “what a man gotta do”? Puns aside, we’re happy to see this dad taking the time to vote.
