For many of us, infant swings and seats act as another set of arms for bouncing and rocking our babies as gently as we would—but more than 60,000 Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Seats and Smart Connect Motion Seats aren’t as safe as they should be. The company issued a precautionary recall for these seats after finding they can get too hot and could potentially catch fire.

“No injuries have been reported but the motor housing can overheat, posing a fire hazard. If you have this product, unplug it immediately and discontinue using it,” Fisher-Price warned consumers via a post on its Facebook page.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC), the affected Soothing Motions Seats and Smart Connect Motion Seats were sold during the last two years for price points of $160 to $170 at retailers such as Target, Walmart, Toys R Us and Amazon.

In addition to the 63,000 seats sold in America, 2,000 more were sold in Canada.

Health Canada confirms there have been no injuries in either country, but there have been 34 reports of motors overheating on seats sold in the United States and two reports of such incidents in Canada.

The model numbers impacted are CMR35, CMR36, CMR37, DYH22 and CMR39. Parents should check the underside of the motor housing for these numbers, and contact Fisher-Price for a full refund if they’ve got one.

Parents can get that process started by calling 1-800-432-5437 or through www.service.mattel.com.
