When you’re as extraordinary as Serena Williams, of course your baby shower theme is going to go beyond pink and blue balloons. But the baby shower she had this past weekend? It’s seriously one of the coolest we’ve ever seen: For Serena Williams’ baby shower, the tennis champ and her girl squad stepped out for a retro, 50s-style baby shower.

“When you and your crew go so far back to the 50’s. Even then they had your back,” Williams captioned her Instagram pictures of the baby shower bash, which involved famous pals Eva Longoria, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Lala Anthony and, of course, Venus Williams.

For the gathering at Nick’s 50’s Diner in West Palm Beach, Florida, the 35-year-old mom-to-be rocked a yellow poodle skirt and saddle shoes while enjoying time with her crew. In her nostalgic outfit, the four-time Olympic gold medalist looked like she’d be as comfortable walking onto the set of Grease as she would be on the tennis court — but she could probably still beat almost anyone even in those shoes.

After all, Williams was already pregnant when she won the Australian Open back in January. She’d had a positive test about a week before, which came as a huge shock.

“Oh my God, this can’t be—I’ve got to play a tournament,” Serena recalled in an interview for the August edition of Vanity Fair. “How am I going to play the Australian Open?”

She clearly figured it out: At three or four weeks pregnant, Williams won the tournament—despite feeling tired, nauseous and, well, pregnant.

Willams’ determination to keep hitting the court (after her doctor gave her the OK) inspires all of us moms who are juggling pregnancy, motherhood and meeting our own goals. And it’s clear that she’s just going to keep giving us #goals: In a recent interview with People, Williams said her determination isn’t going to disappear once she gives birth. She also added the inspiration channel goes both ways…

“It’s a lot, and I know that, but it’s been done before and that keeps me going, knowing a lot of people have done it,” she told People. “If they can do it, I know I can do it. I’ll do the best I can.”

Williams and her fiance, Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, opted not to learn the sex of their first child—but girl power was on display during the baby shower.

We’re sure the social snaps are now inspiring baby shower themes—just like Serena inspires us mamas.
